The service intervals should be in your owner's manual or go to

I follow the owners manual, except for the first change - I try and do it by 1K miles.

Follow the owner's manual

Follow the owner manual schedule for oil and filter changes (every 5000 miles). There is no need to do an "early" oil change before the first recommended oil change.

First change at 5K- unless it's doing "severe" duty.

Its your vehicle. The owners manual is a guide and not a bible.
You could change it every day if you want, or you could never change it.

I prefer an early change out. Break in and manufacturing debris removal, IMO, is a plus. And, I know what oil I use. Who knows what bulk oil is used at the factory?
