when range is down to zero, how far?

On the dash when the range monitor is down to zero, how far or how much fuel is left in the Tundra?

It should be less than a mile, though I've gone farther than that.

If it just got to 0 and your fuelf guage is on the empty line, you have 6 gallons (thats right I said 6) left in the tank. I typically run another 50-75 miles before finding a fuel station.

Carry a 5 gal jug of gas with you and find out. I think I will try that just so I know.

well its easy to figure out.. when it hits zero go to the gas station and fill up. how many gallons did you just put in? find that answer and then look in the manual to see how many gallons your tank can hold.. if you put 20 gals in. and your tank holds 26. bam. results. lata

they have a huge buffer zone. my Avalon holds 19 gallons. if i fill up after my fuel light come on i can fill up only 15 gallons. so that means 4 gallons left, which is at least 80 miles more.

I have just recently noticed the same thing in my Tundra. For the first couple of months I thought I had an 80 litre tank in my truck. At my last fill my light was on and I was able to get just over 70l into the tank. I got curious and dug up the spec and my truck is supposed to have 100L tank in it.

Over 20L of reserve?! My truck comes with a trip computer and its not even accounting for over 20% of the fuel in the tank. In this day and age if you can't build a vehicle with an accurate fuel gauging system then it's time to hang up the shop tools.

I talked to my service manager about this and he said I was the 4th person to complain and rightfully so.

I bought a new Tundra the first of this year and finely did a fuel check. I had the plow on and weight in the back+ did a lot of very short trip to the store. For those reasons I did not check fuel use and remaining till now.
My fuel light just came on and I filled the tank and math shows I also have 6 gallons to spare. NICE TO KNOW, though I rarely go below a ¼ tank anyway. This was just a test!
I also mathed out at 14 ½ MPG. Tight engine and lots of local driving, I DO expect my mileage will get better. Of course that 10% ethanol crap the government is FORCING us to use does reduce mileage by its self!

It's supposed to be 100 liters or 26.4 US Gallons. Though I am not surprised to hear you say 21 gallon tank the way the fuel gauge is calibrated.

When my fuel light comes on and I fill up I can't get more than about 80 litres into the tank. 80L is not all that much when you start putting a truck to hard use and sure the reserve might be there but its a fricken guessing game how far you can go.

You know I like my truck and all, but this is a really stupid mistake on Toyota's part. I think I mentioned this in another thread but my wife drives an Acura TSX and that thing has wicked instrumentation and an accurate fuel gauge. I really didn't need Toyota to stuff 20% of my fuel tank into a hidden reserve.

26 gallons.

The reserve is 6 gallons. I sometimes will drive 60-70 miles after range has reached 0.
