oil filter question

I just did my an oil change myself for the first time. All went well until i removed the oil filter. Oil poured out onto the filter catch can. How do I remove the excess oil?

With the drain tool that is included in the filter box.

^^Yep. Each filter should come with a little plastic "drain nipple". You have to insert it into the drain canister after you remove the bottom plate on it, read this thread (its a good one):
