New to trucks... 4 LO use??

Hello All,

Just purchased my first truck to tow my toy car around (see my SN).

'08 5.7L Dbl Cab. The truck is awesome!!

Dont mean to sound like a noob.... I can see using 4HI in snow or slippery situations... but How do you guys usually use 4 LO?

Thanks!!

The two times that come to mind for me are pulling someone out or hauling a load/towing out of a short steep incline. Like perhaps a boat out of a boat launch. Once you get out of the incline switch to high range. I have also used mine when hauling a payload thru very rough terrain. The lower gearing allowed me for better speed control, in high you end up going too damn fast for the conditions.

Imho

It's an extra short geared 4wd mode for more torque multiplication. Rock crawling, yanking someone out, towing something heavy on loose surfaces. I have used 4hi on my trucks tons of times, never had a reason for 4lo.

like above posters, I have really only used 4-lo a few times, once to pull someone out of a ditch and the other in some really slick snow.

I will use it to pull my boat and trailer outta water. Although 4WD High would do it just fine (5K lb boat), I just want to engage the 4 low system and keep it running smooth.

It's great for drag racing to 30mph. LOL

I've used it for pulling really heavy stuff (stumps) very short distances. I remember my dad one time used it in his old T100 to move a large jungle gym down the road - he didn't need the extra power, but he wanted to be able to drive slowly enough that the 4 friends he had helping could walk along the bed of the truck and support it (we lifted the jungle gym and set it on top of the bed, so it hung off both sides and the back by about 5 feet and was very wobbly).

I use it to creep down muddy roads at my hunting club. They are rutted and rough and it makes it easy to go slow and creep along. I also use it to pull people out and when the mud is deep.

I use four-low for rock crawling and pushing through deep sand.
