Service Advisor Tells Me I Dont Know My A** From A Hole In The Ground
I Know this is an old topic. (Alarm Activation) This is the second new truck that I have purchased from the same dealer. I have done my homework to figure out all the options that were possible to change in the factory computer with the techstream.
I called my service department and asked the advisor a couple questions to see what he knew. I realized he was not very openminded. I told him about the options that I wanted to change. He told me that was not possible. I explained that I had copies of Toyota Service Tech Info that is placed in parts boxes by Toyota. He said I must be wrong, because he had his own Tundra and he would have heard about this. I said I would bring in the paperwork, he refused , and said, I work at a dealership and its all here and I would Know.
Next Step, Find a New Dealer. Nally Toyota of Roswell. For all you peeps that need your truck programed see Joel. When I arrived He said he had not seen this before but was willing to check it out. I set up an appoitment with his Diag Computer Tech, who was as blown away by the possibilities I presented on Official Toyota Documentation. He asked me for some time to figure this out. About three times the Tech came to me with some Specifics about the programing, with a light in his eyes. He was excited to see what this truck had to offer. 30 min later he was finished. He walked me through the changes and showed they work. He said he was not sure if the alarm had been activated. We tried a couple tests and nothing. As we walked away a lot porter went to open the door and the alarm went off. You should have seen the smile on both of our faces. Priceless. They charged me 100.00 to do this. No Prob. Sure beats being called a dumbass.
1 Alarm Activated
2 Passive Setting ON
3 Glass Break Sensor ON
4 Seatbelt Chime Off (driver & passenger)
5 Interior Light Time Delay
6 And there are even more options

Do you actually have a glass break sensor installed? Just turning it 'on' on the tech stream doesn't do anything if there isn't a microphone to listen. Also, $100 is a crazy price! I'm glad you're happy, and i almost didn't say anything, but other people looking to get this done need to know not to pay that much. It's a 15 minute job, if that, to get the settings adjusted.

I installed the glass break sensor myself. Had my selling dealer fully understood what customer care means, I would not have paid that amount. I was happy to pay this just to get it done. Its cheaper than the optional "alarm" they try to sell you. If they had a clue, the salesman should offer programing at time of sale.

I agree whole-heartedly. I was 'fortunate' in that my dealership screwed up some of my paperwork so they requested I come back into the office to sign some extra papers. It took the dealership a few days to realize their mistake, so by this time I had realized I wanted to get some things programmed. When I went to sign the papers, I took the sales manager aside and explained how he inconvenienced me and wasted my time, so he would get to cover any expense to get my truck programmed.
If you'd like to be able to do this yourself, or use an independent technician (other than the Toyota dealer) Well as of this week, you can now get a temporary subscription to the Techstream software and use a Mongoose MFC to the same thing without the $7000 Techstream tool.
I asked my dealer after the last oil change to activate my alarm. They never did it... lame.

If I may...where did you pick up this information on what all could be modified? I just bought a 2010 tundra after trading out my old 95 Camry (just a slight upgrade..I know!) I'd be interested to know where I could find more info on this setup.

From Toyota, if it can be done with their $7000 Techstream tool, it can now be down with just the Techstream software on your laptop and a Mongoose cable. Toyota is selling the Mongoose themselves to their own shops:
Check it out: https://techinfo.toyota.com
We're an authorized distributor for Drew Technologies and they had also told me about this, just couldn't say anything until the official announcement from Toyota.
Well, I guess what I mean is, how can you find out what is available for change? Is there a breakdown somewhere of the items that you could activate or deactivate without having to buy the 500 dollar software? I would like to know what I could do, before i buy software and hardware and realize..there is nothing I want to change here.
