Smile 5.7L Oil filter drain tip

I did my 25,000mi oil change this morning. I found a way to keep the mess to a minimum in draining the filter cannister. Take about 15-18inches of clear vinyl tubing from the hardware store and push the cannister drain "tool" into it. I used an STP oil filter cartridge from Autozone, and it comes with the filter. The 2 new O rings are also in the box. Take a small hose clamp and snug it around the tubing over the drain tool. Now a firm push straight up will lock it in place and drain out the cannister. A sideways tug on the tool will remove it with really no mess. I will keep the tubing and tool device in my oil change kit for the future. Hope this helps!

Nice! I've got an oil change coming up, so i'll give this a go. I've also heard that some people have found threaded 'tools' for draining the canister.

The Purolator filter for the 5.7 engine comes with a threaded tool to drain the filter. Works great with a piece of hose attached.

Do you have an extra drain tool yet?

Just have the 1. I bought a Purolator filter just to get the tool. Bought a case of 10 Toyota filters from Sparks Toyota so it will be sometime before I need more. Found the Purolator at Advance Auto.
