Factory Bed Rail Cleats

I was curious how many of you guys have a rail/cleat system installed? I just got my truck a few days ago (finally after waiting 6 weeks) and I was hauling a TV for a buddy. I put two cleats in to use for the straps and it got me to thinking that as easy as they are to put in, a thief could remove them and walk away with them.

Do you guys normally take them out when not in use or is there a way to secure them in? I do plan to add a tonneau cover eventually which would likely do the trick. But in an open box they are quite vunerable it seems.

I've also heard of endgates being stolen as well. Anyone have either of these stolen? I've got my endgate locked now. Nothing like a new vehicle to fuel paranoia.

I live near Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware, and retired as a cop. If someone wants something, believe me, they'll get it or break it in the process. If you're not going to put a cover over the bed, I still wouldn't worry about it. The basic idiot thief would rather steal your antenna for a crack pipe than your rail system.

LOL! Thanks! I have since put on a soft cover so I have installed them in the box now. I used a cover from Truxedo covers and I sure like it. Rolls up out of the way when you need to haul something tall.
