Tundra sales and production halted

I am sure everyone knows this by now but Toyota has stopped selling and building 8 models including the Tundra until the accelerator pedal matter is resolved.

I am in the market for a Tundra and assuming they fix this quickly, maybe Toyota will up incentives to kickstart sales?

Greg

I'm sure they will start selling again very quickly.

I'm not so sure. 18 current deaths related (?) to this specific problem? I read where the software could have a glitch in it that only reveals itself once every 10 million times??? If so, this will be very difficult to pinpoint/solve. Which I hope is resolved quickly. For Toyota builds great vehicles.

This recall is not related to software. If you read the press release there is a mechanical failure of the gas pedal that happens over time.

Per the news this morning, Toyota has indicated the problem only exists on models with a US made peddle assembly. The ones from Japan haven't had any problems. You just need to look at the assembly and see where yours is from.

The problem is with the CTS supplier, not the Denso supplier (hence the difference between US and Japanese production lines).

I am in the same situation as the OP. I am looking to buy a Tundra in the next few months and was wondering about incentives to get sales going again. Any thoughts on this?

It sounds like a fix will be announced tomorrow with parts arriving at dealerships mid to late next week. I would be shocked if Toyota did not run some spectacular deals after that.

I would actually be shocked if they did run spectacular deals.

My prediction is sales incentives will be no different than in previous years.

Question...I was already thinking about upgrading from a Tacoma to a Tundra. Any insight if there will be some sales going on when they bring the Tundra's back on line to re-coup some of the cost they lost during this pedal issue?

I agree. If they run massive deals it's like a slap in the face to anyone that recently or previously bought a Toyota. If they do anything it will be modest at best, at least that is my guess.

This is one of the reasons I didn't by a GM. In these parts you can get a GM truck for about $10K+ off the sticker price. Well this kind of a thing makes your current GM product worth $10K less in resale too.

Maybe not a software problem but one that could be even more difficult to get a handle on????

The official says the safety agency is looking at the possibility that electromagnetic interference might somehow be causing Toyota's electronic throttle control systems to malfunction, though NHTSA has not seen evidence to support that yet.

Reading some of the accounts of people that have talked about the experience of the this "gas pedal" issue I am not so sure it's anything to do with the foot feed either. One guy reported his car revved out of control when it was started and the gas pedal was still in the idle position. He shut it off started it back up and it was back to normal.

It's entirely possible that the sticking pedal is an issue for some but there could be more to it. Time will tell.

The Toyota web site said as of yesterday that sales were still suspended. I'll get back in touch with my sales guy to get the skinny but I assume the website is correct.
