I think this is where they use a small shim to "correct" the problematic pedals. I did not know it was called the 90L

Both Popular Mechanics and Motor Trend did recent articles on the gas pedal, floor mat and acceleration issues along with the media and government responses.

Both clearly identified that there is no problem with the throttle by wire and made a very clear presentation how the system works.

In addition the pedal and floor mats issues were greatly overstated as only a few with detached mats( not Toyota's fault) have ever happened. Even fewer slow returning pedals were ever found.

Then they tested various Toyota's braking capacity with the engine wide open.

One example was the 170 hp 2.5 four in a Camry. The brakes produced 547 hp to stop the Camry with the engine wide open in only a few more feet than normal.

This validates what I believed all along and I did not take my Tundra or Camry in for the bogus recall.

The government only talked to the owners who claimed they had the problems. There was a wealth of engineers with the knowledge to prove that the TBW had no issues at all but they were not interviewed.

90L recall is the modification of the accel pedal...They will trim the bottom
of the accel pedal about 1/2 inch...Thats it.....No software...no new floor mats. except
all weather floor mats....that means no carpet all rubber....They will supply you with much
thinner and less grooved fllor mats....you can opt out by signing a release.

After they do the shim and trim, you may or may not notice that you don't have the control you had with your original pedal. It is stiffer and it will be kind of jerky acceleration. If you tell the dealer they will then change the pedal to the latest version that does not have a shim. It works much better. Some people say their Dealer makes them do the shim and trim before they will do the updated pedal. I took a copy of a thread from over at Tundra Solutions or Tundra Talk that had the good pedal number on it and they changed it out for me.

This is incorrect information....The shim has nothing to do with stiffness..Thats the spring....Spring does not get changed...The metal shim is installed to prevent sticking at full throttle...Thats it.

If you really want a new pedal the correct way is to say you do like the appearance of the pedal after modifcation.

actually im with okslim on this one, it may or may not change stiffness but from what i have experienced after the shim modification (SSC AOA) the gas pedal is more sensitive. ive replaced at least 20 to 25 pedals on tundras due to sensitivity.

don't like the look of the cut up pedal..I will prolly do that when my time comes! But never can tell till I'm there and looking down at the pedal when it's done.

I hear you should take out any mats you have before you go in because they basically 'impound' them until you sign a waiver. Don't know.

While I do believe it's all a sham, the one thing I DO want is the software upgrade for throttle cutout on braking...I see no reason why the DBW throttle wasn't implemented that way from the outset.
