USA New Tundras burning oil?

What up guys!?

Just got my new 2011 Tundra earlier this spring. 5.7L. Just took it in for it's first oil change and I checked it before I took it in. It was 1/4 to 1/2qt low. I checked it when it was new. I wasn't low. It is parked in my garage everytime its driven. I would see oil on the ground if leaking. I looked under the vehicle to see if any oil is maybe leaking only when the truck is running. Dry as a bone. It definetly burned it.

I do see small puffs of smoke out of exhaust when I start it. Most of it looks whiter in color(water vapor maybe?), and some is dark. I told the dealer about it and they said that it is a normal condition for this motor?????

Sorry but I have a hard time believing that. Not on motor with 5000miles on it. I checked it when I got it back. They over filled it 1/4qt. I can only assume so the oil level looks normal when I take it in next. They must think I'm an idiot.

Anyone have any knowledge about this? Is it normal, or does anyone else burn a little oil in a 5.7L?

Thanks a ton!

Due to the need to lubricate the piston rings, a small amount of oil is left on the inside of the cylinder walls during the combustion cycle. This is simply a fact for any modern 4 Cycle engine design. The amount of oil burned does vary depending on the motor, specific ones here and there will burn slightly more or less.

1/4 of a quart is well within design specs and is nothing to worry about. Especially since this is the first oil cycle. One can imagine that an engine would burn more oil during it's break in process.

As far as overfilling it a bit, it would be crazy to think they did this intentionally just to "fool" you. Quite simply, its tough to guage how much you need to get it exactly right on the dip stick, as you can never get every last drop of oil out of the engine. The motor is designed to run perfectly fine at slightly high or low marks that we are speaking of.

the dealers use plain dino oil which oil burn off is more common , switch to a synthetics like amsoil or mobil 1 and there wont be very much oil being burnt. especially since toyota does the 6500 mile oil change some dino will be gone.
