Question Choosing 4.6L or 5.7L Tundra again 4x4 or 4x2

Hey folks..trying to decide on buying 2010 Tundra but i hear lots of mmbrs leaning to 5.7L Vs 4.6L My reason to buy is for towing TTrailer 4500lbs gross. Am u/g fm 2005 6spd Tacoma. Again could i go with 4x2 ..any inputs appreciated. thnks

Bought mine 2 weeks ago, went with 5.7 and 4x4. Not regretting it even though i considered the lower engine. One thing is for sure 4x4 is smart to get unless you live in Arizona or cali

What on earth would be your reasoning for saying "unless you live in Arizona or cali"?

I am assuming that a TTrailer is a travel trailer. I also upgraded from a 06 Taco AC TRD to a 11 Tundra. Mine is a 5.7 TRD 4x4. Here are my thoughts:
  • Either engine will be a huge improvement in the towing dept. My travel trailer is about 5000lbs fully loaded. I went with the 5.7 to give me more options if/when I upgrade the trailer in the future. The Taco pulled it fine, but no comparison with the Tundra.
  • While 4x2 is good for towing (better perhaps), the first time you are on wet slimey grass/mud with your trailer hooked on you will be wishing for the 4x4. Lots of guys do it with 4x2 but I like the security of 4x4. Also if you live in a northern climate I don't recommend 4x2.

I am interested in buying a Tundra with the 4.6 liter engine. I like to do my own maintenance when possible. Is the 4.6 hard to work on? How hard is it to change a timing chain or a water pump?

Well, we've been driving an '04 Sequoia with the 4.7 and it has been plenty of power.
