In 1980, the 'Toyota' dealer adjusted the valves on Dad's 2T-C engine.
Cracked one of the valves because he adjusted them too tight.(We drove it
that way for 18 more years and 180,000 miles.) In 1981, I had the 'Toyota'
dealer in a different town try to sell me $600 worth of repairs on my 3K-C
because it was using oil. They were trying to tell me it needed a ring job.
That was at 48,000 miles and the old mechanical lifters had never been
adjusted. I had brought it in to get the lifters properly adjusted. This
dealer later lost his Toyota franchise and his son had to 'leave town',
also. When I went to college, the nearest Toyota dealer was up in Hot
Springs. He was OK, but I couldn't leave the car there for any repairs
because I had NO other way of getting around at that point. Being an older
college student has its disadvantages.
