Where is this car located?
3S can be made to 2.2L by stroker kit.
Did he tell you that he has 5S block?
Or did he use stroker kit to increase the displacement to 2.2L?
There are two possibilities on the turbo,
1. The owner has upgraded it to 2nd generation turbo/manifold. The first gen came with single entry turbo. The twin-entry spools faster. This is a good thing. You have more choice of upgrade turbos that can be bolt on the twin-entry manifold.
2. The owner has swapped 2nd gen 3SGTE in there. This is even better. There are more upgrade stuff for 2nd gen than 1st gen engine.
Look at the intake manifold (not intercooler). If it says "Toyota 2000 Twin Cam 16", it is a 2nd gen intake manifold. Chance is that the whole engine is 2nd generation.
