Here's the letter that I wrote to Midas. I was wondering what your input would be:
---------------
"First off, I would like to question this (Midas') location's integrity. I first brought my car in there because I had NO OTHER CHOICE. My vehicle was running on its own battery because the alternator failed. When I brought it in, I was told that I would get a call from them in regards of an estimate and time when it would be ready.
When I left my car there, I felt uneasy. Maybe because it looked like it was poorly kept or maybe because the service person there, Melvin, seemed to have rushed me out.
I waited over 4 hours til I DECIDED TO CALL MIDAS MYSELF. I did get an answer from Melvin and he told me in an hour. An hour passed and I called then he told me in a SURLY MANNER "ANOTHER HALF HOUR". I was quite taken by his tone of voice but I showed up at midas 45 minutes AFTER he told me 30 minutes to make sure I can pick up my car when it was ready and was it ready for me to pick up? NO.
I showed up and Melvin told me that "he did me a favor" and that he WENT TO A JUNK YARD AND PICKED UP SPARE PARTS FOR MY REPAIR. Now let me get this straight. I paid to get my car fixed and I get "JUNK YARD PARTS" on my freaking car?!?! And on top of that he made it seem like I OWED HIM because he "Went on his lunch break" to get me these parts. Also he told me that "midas will charge you more if I got these parts new from other stores". Uhm, isnt't that WHY I WANTED TO GET MY CAR DONE AT MIDAS!??!?!
Anyways, as I went to go pay for my labor and my "midas parts", I was told that I could not get a reciept for the "Junk yard parts" because melvin used the money "out of his own pocket". Now, honestly, it's his FREAKING JOB to get the parts from other places. NOT MINE. I don't think I had to pay him $100 for a damn BOLT and a BRACKET that he got from a JUNK YARD. I work on my own cars and I have gone to Junk yard. I will PAY YOU, PERSONALLY, IF you can find a $100 BOLT and a BRACKET. I would have done the repair myself but working 50+ hours a week and this happeneing on a Monday, didn't give me much of a choice. That said, I hestitantly gave him a $100 IN CASH because "it was out of his OWN pocket". For all I know, he could have pocketed the money for himself. After an HOUR i got there, my car was ready for me and I left. While I was waiting though, I read through your packet where I read "At, Midas, we know how important quality and value are to you. That's why we use quality Midas Genuine Products and offer the famous Midas Guarantee" Is that right? Even cover USED JUNKYARD PARTS FOR MY GOD DAMN CAR?!?!?
At least I know that I can go to Midas and get good quality JUNK YARD PARTS and slap them on my car, pay some guy named "melvin" $100 in CASH (not recieve a reciept for it either) and do MY OWN CUSTOMER SERVICE because Midas knows how much quality matters to me.
I will NOT recomend Midas to ANY of my friends. I will post up my experiences to about 7 DIFFRENT automotive forums that I frequent on the INTERNET and I will MAKE SURE that midas' reputation because tainted (although, it is hard for me to believe since I believe that this has to be the worst chain of repair shops EVER).
I'm glad that I can trust midas when it comes to shafting me with shady customer service and genuine JUNK YARD PARTS. I will be waiting for a response, Midas.
------
FUCK MIDAS! You know why? Cuz they like to FUCK YOU. Honestly, I would NEVER recomend them to anyone.
I sent this in to them BUT GUESS WHAT? I got an "error" sending it to them. Seriously this is getting to the point where I am pissed. Over a $100? NO. The fact is that they are NOT a mom and pop store but a CHAIN store. It's obvious that these guys are under a distric manager.
Assholes.

Like Bull said, paying cash can't leave any evidence for yourself. If it ever did come down to a legal battle, it would be their word against yours and you'll both be losers.
I would print that letter out and send it to them. Send it to more than one place and send it to more than one person.
I've never used Midas because they just seem shifty. Now I have a legitimate reason not to. Not that I would've used them in the first place.
I used to be a service writer myself at an Express Tire/Goodyear service center, and from my experience it sounds like total bullshit what they did. I would get in touch with the district manager of that region and talk to him and have them order dealer parts and re-install them using a different Midas location so you will not have to deal with the same people.
Have you seen their recent commercials where they are talking about how well their service is and the kind of work they perform? Sounds like the experience you have had is the exact opposite of what they are claiming.
it took over 4 hours for them to replace the alternator? It took me 15 min to take mine out, and put it back in, and that was just because it was hot and i kept burning myself.
what could possibly take so long? why did it need a new braket? i wouldnt have given him shit for that junk yard part. i understand being rushed, but damn, i would have called the cops.

I've dealt with Midas before and never had any problems. Then again, I just go through them for the brakes. With the lifetime warranty, all I pays is $50 in labor to replace the pads when they wear out. Sounds like you found a shifty-ass store though. If something like that happened to me, I'd be bitting heads off over the phone.
Midas is one of the worst for anything (kind of like merchants).
Read any rag that 'rates' repair places and you will see midas in the lower half. One in my area is called Check Book magazine, out of a possibly 100 score (100 being the best) midas rarely scores anything over 45. Most points knocked off for being dishonest and doing work that never needed done.

$50 for labor? just buy $40 life time Bendix brakes from autozone and repalce them yourself...bring them the receipt and they give you new pads, and its like 20min worth of work. and you dont risk your wheels falling off while you drive down the road...ive seen it happend a few times.

lifetime brake pads from the original job caused my rotors to wear prematurely and warp. The new brake pads were free, but with the new rotors and labor, $350. And now, the pressure from the brake pedal either stops the damn thing short or it doesn't catch in time.
MIDAS can kiss ass...next time the brakes need to be done, if I don't DIM, going to the Yota dealer - at least if I get raped there, they're OEM.
I don't trust any shop where I can't sit with the car and watch the work be done. If I can't stick my big ass head under the car and ask them what the fuck they are doing while they are doing it... I won't take it there .
Toyota can suck me too... most of you guys probably don't have this problem.... but when I take my MR2 in... they like to 'joyride' it. Mother fuckers.... I will never take my MR2 to Toyota again. One of their techs actually told me that he was fucking around in my car.... that was before I had too much $ into it so I didn't really care.... but about 2 months ago I took it to a different dealership and it came back with 15 miles on it and the water in my h2o injection tank was ALMOST GONE.... it was full when I dropped it off. I'm sure any driving that the dealership needs to do doesn't take 15 miles.... and they sure as hell don't need to be boosting 13+psi.... especially for long periods of time.
My mechanic is cool.... he's anal.... so he doens't mind if I am. He lets me get under the lift and get dirty any time I'm there.
I know how you feel Yukio not having the time to do something yourself and then having a shitty job done. With all the favors my parts guy does for me.... I feel kinda bad bashing on the service people... but it has to be done.
My midas isn't bad...though they aren't the greatest either....they told me I needed an entire pipe (about 450) because my flexpipe was shot. My mech said he would order the part for 50 bucks and clamp it.....I am going to my mech for this.
Oh and if I EVER caught midas using junk parts.....I would mail them a brick through a window.
Well, I talked with Midas Inc. and they gave me and address and a phone number. I will update you all on what happens.
