well remeber there are types of clay bars. different people call them different thing. I call them soft and hard. soft can get most surface contaminants and in my opinion overpriced peices of playdo.(meguiars clay bar) I use Clay Magic Clay Bar its a hard type. It gets deeper down particles in your paint. I call it hard type because it hard to kneed. And yeah, rule of thumb, if your nail catches on the paint in a scratch no buffing can help, its too deep. Also remember some of those bug removers say paint safe, and they more than likely are, but they will strip all coats of wax off the affected areas.
