I saw this question all over with no solid answer so I am here to put this to rest and collect all the info in one place.

You need:

- Techstream software
- MINI VCI cable or compatible cable (Mongoose MFC)
- Compatible remote

- Used Remotes need a PASS CODE from TIS (can get it from online services or an authorized locksmith/dealer with access to TIS, or someone with the Keygen)

---------

- Techstream software v9 (you get it with the cable or you can find it around the net)

- Cable: just search for techstream cable on ***removed source***)

- The drivers for the cable - works well on XP but for win 64bit you need to manually install x64 drivers.

-The remote with working batteries of course. needs to have the Same FCC ID and the same transmitter ID which is printed on the inside on the circuit board.
Mine for 2008 hybrid highlander with hatchback power
FCC ID HYQ14AAB
Toyota part# 8990448110
transmitter ID: 271451-0140

If your remote is virgin and has never been programmed you are good to go, if not perhaps if you bought a used one: you need to do smartkey reset via techstream and it will ask you for a passcode.
it gives you a 96 character code + vin # of the car you can get the passcode using those 2 on some website (20-30$) or from a dealer/locksmith

If the smartkey is brand new you can just use techstream and program it

turn on the car like you are going to drive it but leave it in park, this way your battery will not drain while you work, make sure your laptop is fully charged.
Install the drivers for the cable and install techstream make sure it runs
connect the cable to obdII socket and your USB and in techstream connect to the car
make sure that is your car in the menu and chose WITH SMARTKEY option.

in techstream: body electrical> smart key> utility>

New remote> key code registration and follow the prompt very easy.

Used remote> Smartkey reset with the drivers door open for the whole duration of programing and the car on fully so the battery does not die. Get the SEED code , do not close the techstream till you get the passcode , if you close it the smarkey reset code will change.

get the passcode and put it in .. wait 16 minutes .. the program is slow do not freak out if the screen disappears jus put your own timer for 16 min.
then register the remote.. using Register Key CLASSIC.. chose 3rd option " I have already reset the smart key"
program your used key first
then your original key and you are done.

FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED THE TIS PASSCODE: it goes for around 30$ online or you can buy the program for 400$ from china to generate it. the program comes on a USB dongle and only works from the dongle, I have not found the hack for that.
If you have a dealer friend or locksmith friend they should be able to hook you up.
I might be able to hook you up with SEED code for 14.50$ from a local locksmith friend of mine. send me a pm if you need it.

I have the Passcode calculator program but it does not work without the USB dongle if anyone can crack it and extract the algorithm or make it work without the dongle we can all get our passcodes for free

I will update this post soon with more detail.

I did the Highlander programing after I got hte batteries for the remote CR1632 from walmart/ they are tough to find, check by jewelry dept. or order it online and wait.

I had to downgrade my techstream form v10 to v9 so the seed code calculator would recognize the code.

Used remote> Smartkey reset with the drivers door open for the whole duration of programing and the car on fully so the battery does not die. Get the SEED code , do not close the techstream till you get the passcode , if you close it the smarkey reset code will change.

then register the remote.. using Register Key CLASSIC.. chose 3rd option " I have already reset the smart key"
program your used key first
then your original key and you are done.

if you are getting your codes online make sure you are connected to internet before you start, and make sure the laptop is full and can handle 30min off the charger.

I ended up buying the Seed code form an online source and I got 3 more Seed code credit with them ,, who ever needs them PM me.

now ordering the cut keys;
get a Torx30 screwdriver
follow this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TzLDWzuuAZc
get your code
you can order it online from ovnisf or maybe your local lock smith 10-20$ per key.

the prius was more complicated since the immobilizer and the smartkey are not together in techstream like highlander,
so first erase all keys in immobilizer then register them all
then go do the smartkey Reset as above. you do not need to Reset the imobiliser, just the smart key in the prius/camry

Not sure how to pm you but a seed code is helpful if I'm not too late

Ahh from what I have seen you have to pay like $20 bucks to a shady website to get the seed code...
There was a guy on here that found a website where he paid a small amount and got what he needed.
I originally thought you were looking for the crack to open the program..
My mistake :)

From this thread a lot of people would like to be able to easily and cheaply get a duplicate smart key. For most people going through all that is explained herein is probably a little to much to comprehend - we are used to getting a hard key cut at wal mart. Might end up being very careful to not loose the only key we have and making sure to get two in the future ..

I bought a new smartkey from http://www.autotransponder.com/ and boutght an adapter off of ebay and I used this thread and
to successfully program a second smartkey.

Tom, I'm sure if you don't have a lot of googling experience to find the necessary components it could be a little overwhelming. Once you have a cable, software and new key it really is fairly easy to do. Resetting the keys seems like it adds bit more to the process though.

My local dealer cut the emergency key for $16 without much problem. $195 does seem like a better deal than the $300+ I've heard dealerships are charging.

Thanks very much for this information. I am going to follow up more on this and see what happens.. Not being very computer literate it does look a bit intimidating up front. Easy to see how Toyota can get away with charging so much for the services.

My situation: I have a smart key from my wife's old/totaled, 2008 HH, and only one smart key for her newer 2010 HH. Both keys have the same FCC and IC number/code. From what I understand with this system I should be able to reprogram the 2008 key to work with the 2010, and end up with two keys for her car.

What specifically did you search for to find the techstream software and adapter cable.? Thanks again. Merry Christmas :)

I debated whether to add to this or start a new thread, rather obvious which I chose. 0:)

I just bought a 2009 HiHy and it only had one smartkey. :frown:

Ordered two of these, should be here first of the week.https://www.ebay.com/itm/302390393868
The ad description:
Included:New Replacement Keyless Entry Remote Shell Case & Pad With Key Insert. Programming Procedure:No Programming Necessary, just cut the key blade. These are used to simplify the identification of the proper parts for a particular vehicle.
Two questions, is the bolded part true and where/who cuts keys like this?

I have Techstream and the cable, not yet installed on my old XP netbook, it is fully charged in prep for getting Techstream on it.

Thanks

You will get nothing more than a SHELL for remote electronics to go in and a blank key that should be able to be cut by home depot or any other descent locksmith... That's why you don't need to program it because there is Nothing in it :)
Edit: Here is a picture from the auction you bought

Hi All,
I was lost the key less car ( Toyota Highlander Ltd 2012) the Gym Centre and want to know if anyway to re-program or generate the new pass-code for both current old key less and new one just in case to avoid someone got the old key and enter to the car when I am at the Gym Centre.

Very appreciated with all of your advise.
