USA Install audio switch on base highlander?

Hi all,
Just joined the H/L club no long ago. Two weeks ago, I bought a 2010 base model H/L without the audio control (everything is basic on the H/L) and I really miss this function. I wonder can I just buy THE AUDIO SWITCH part and plug into steering wheel and play? I asked my dealer and they said no WHICH I doubt it. I just want the left side part of the switch. So...is there any people done this project before? Would be nice to have the audio control on my base H/L.

It was in my project plan since last year (actually today is the anniversary of my first post for that project). I got all the parts but I know I have to connect 3 wires from D16 connector at the steering column to the back of the head unit at pin 6, 7, and 8 of E16 connector. I just do not have the time to remove the head unit to finish the project.

Steering wheel audio control

2008 base, AWD, Fog light mod, Aussie Kluger style nudge bar, K&N filter.

Uhm...my dealer only told me to replace a steering wheel which I was thinking about it. I am going back to my country and I might get A LOT cheap price of a NEW steering wheel with the audio control (Of course, made in Japan). I just don't know if I need to do extra wiring if I replace entire steering wheel. It looks like if I just buy the part, audio control won't work.

Bare in mind that models of different year may have different wiring. Maybe your 2010 Base HL already pre-wired with the audio control and hence do not need to add extra wires. The easiest way is to check D16 connector at your steering column. If you do not know which one, get the repair manual through a PM in the other post. You also need to make sure the spiral cable assy behind the airbag has the other connector Z2 connecting to D16. Without that, it's impossible to add audio control. I bought a used Camry steering wheel/steering column with audio control and spiral cable assy. The only thing missing are those 3 wires that were not pre-wired in 2008 Base HL.

Thanks for your reminder. I will check that. Hope it's pre-wired. (Even my dealer said NO PRE-WIRED.) The dealer here probably didn't realize it though.

Any luck with this? I just bought an 09 HL base that I'd love to add steering wheel controls to. I would need to get my hands on the wiring diagram to see if my model is pre wired to support steering wheel controls.
