It seems the 2008 Highlander will be announced at the February 7th Chicage Auto Show. Talk is that it might come out in April or May of this year. Many Highlander fans are wondering between now and February 7th what it will look like. I have heard that it will not be as bland as the current highlander and it will have a edgier design. I have also heard it may look like a mini Sequoia.
After having been to the detroit car show, I must say that my highlander replacement might be the new Mazda CX-9.
The CX-9 has 7 real seats for 7 adults, or at least 6 anyway. The third row can accept 6 footer like me, and still save some room for cargo at the back.
Hope the Highlander will be nice as the CX-9, otherwise I'll switch to mazda !

I'm not sure if you've ever owned a Mazda for a long period of time or not but I can tell you this.....when it comes to long term reliability, Mazda will cost far more then any Toyota cars and trucks. I've had couple of Mazdas in the past and I would never ever go back to Mazda again.
Their dealers service plus its products are really inferior to Toyotas.
^ if you plan on owning a mazda for 4 years you're fine, but if not dont.
the current HL to me isnt really BORING because it's a camry on stilts and it's supposed to be an SUV not a performance sedan. Honestly the new suv's are just wierd. For the current redesigns i like their fronts and sides but the rear...man what happend!?
so if toyota decides to hop on the bandwagon with the rest, i sure hope they pay attention to the rear and make it look good and practical.
i guess virtually all toyotas and lexus's will be using the 2gr engine now. I sure hope toyota knows what they're doing.

I'm a Mazda owner, I have a Mazda Protege 5. In fact I had 2 Mazdas. I sold the other and plan to sell the Protege 5 soon too. Liquidsilver I totally agree with you, although the Mazda engine is pretty reliable but the other things in the car are not so good. Right now my 2003 Protege 5 is in need of a new door lock actuator, it's common for these parts to go bad due to bad design. I have been on the Mazda forums and found out that the failure is due to cold weather. Whoa!!! It's true my Mazda is parked outside everynight, then one day it just failed. And yes the Mazda dealers service sucks, I have been to 3 of them and not one impressed me.
So I'm very glad and happy I purchased a Highlander, my next car will be the Rav-4.
Well from everything I've been reading about the 2008 Highlander, it looks as if they are going to Supersize it. As the owner of a 2001 FWD, I4 cyl, Highlander who is happy with its current size, the 08 is going to be TOO BIG for me. I'm looking for a similar vehicle to my 01 and the new Nissan Rogue comes very close but with all the newest stuff. http://www.nissanhelp.com/Models/200...escription.htm

By now I'm sure that most of you have seen pictures of the new HL. I just spoke with my salesman here in Ottawa, Ontario about the '08 HL and he advised me that he was expecting it to show up in his showroom during the first week of July. Unlike some of the U.S. models, he said that the backup camera system is only available as an option with the Limited model. I think he also said that if you ordered the Nav system with the other models, you can get the camera as well. No pricing available yet.

Just received an email from Toyota Canada saying the 2008 Highlander will hit the showroom in August. I'm not sure if that applies to U.S. dealers as well. It goes on to say that the models will be Base, SR5, Sport, Limited and Hybrid. I believe the SR5 and Sport are new up here. Previously the SR5 model only applied to the 4Runner.

according to our tac sheet the 08's are at the port and waiting to be freighted to us possibly in the next week or two.
I hope the 2008 model will offer the same cargo space and the same type of 3rd row seat as the Mazda CX9, so far it's the best replacement for my Highlander.
I find the Outlook and Acadia a way too big for me......I like the interior space, but not that big !
