Question 2008 Highlander console cup holders

On of the complaints on the 2006 RAV4's when they came out was that the cup holder holes were too large and drinks tipped over in them

Toyota corrected this in 2007 by providing cup holder inserts that resolved the problem.

Soooo....

Looking at the pictures of the center console the cup holder holes look overly large.

Does the 2008 Highlander have inserts for these holes or are they deep enough that it isn't a problem?

The 2008 HL does have inserts on the two cup holders visible on the center console. They are removable, and work fine. There are two more cup holders in that console under the flip up door, and they have a baffle to hold the cups secure.

That's encouraging. Nothing upsets me more than the floor console cup holders in my 2001 HL. If you have a 12oz can of soda or a small drink cup you are fine but just try to sit any type of water bottle on there and the minute you touch the brakes the bottle is launched onto the floor. The bad part is that most of the time it ends up on the drivers side under the pedals. Not good.

You need to be careful not to let the inserts stay stuck on your cup, we have noticed that when you take your cup out, the insert comes with it. My wife accidentally threw one out along with her empty Starbucks cup.

They hold a regular water bottle snugly but I have to stress eflowcire's comment: check before throwing out the container; the insert came out with the bottle.
Was funny to have my dad run into my room couple weeks ago. He was amazed that Toyota thought of everything including "the rubber cup I can use as a drinking cup"

Try small piece of velcro tape to keep the insert in place.
