08 Highlander Taillight removal

I want to tint my 2008 Highlander taillights.
How the heck do you take the taillights off?
Anyone know a easy way to remove them before I start taking the rear bumper off?

Thanks in advance.

Still tryin ti figure it out.
Anyone have any ideal?
What about those damn taillight bulbs?
I popped off the inside panels and took a look.
There's no way you can replace the bubs from the backside.
You still have to remove the entire taillight assembly in order to replace the bulbs.
Do you think I might have to remove the bumper to access the taillght assembly?

Try reading page 473 in your owners manual

Open the back door and remove the cover

To protect the cover, Place a rag between the flathead screwdriver and cover as shown in the illustrations

Turn the bulb bases counterclockwise

Back-up light
Rear turn signal light
Stop/tail and rear side marker light

If all else fails you can reference info on the Toyota Tech site https://techinfo.toyota.com/ for $10 a day

Does anyone know how / have instructions on how to remove the taillight assembly? I bought HH Tail's and I would like to replace my Non-Hybrid tails.

My Sport came with the wrong tail lights. The dealer changed them to the proper ones. When doing it, they chipped the paint off of the upper edges of the bumper cover.

Once I finished freaking out, the service manager told me the tech tried to cheat and remove the lights without taking the bumper off. Apparently, that is how it's supposed to be done.

I'm not sure, but my impression is that it's not an easy job.

Ease of maintenance was one of the sacrifices that I made when buying the HL. Any vehicle you have to pretty much pull the engine out to change half the spark plugs is a service nightmare. Unfortunately, the tail light removal is another example of this.

All I can say is OMG if this is all true. Remove the bumper to replace a bulb...LED's would have been the way to go..like the 08 Rav's.. Piff
