Watching DVD on NAV screen

I am trying to find a bypass or repeater module so the passenger can see the dvd on the NAV screen while in motion. You have to be in park to see it now and my 4 year old can't always describe what to do on the screen to get his movie started. If anyone has any solutions they would be appreciated.

Can we see DVD on Nav screen irrespective of the vehicle in motion or not?

You don't actually have to be in park. I had read that you needed to be in Park and have the Parking Brake engaged. However, while stopped at a traffic light, I gently pressed the Parking Brake and the DVD appeared on the NAV screen while in drive. While it doesn't necessarily solve your problem, it is still a little easier.

to see while in park, is it only if you have the rear entertainment package? i just tried a dvd in the nav dvd spot, while in park, and it said "not a nav dvd, please insert map dvd", did i do something wrong? maybe reupping this post will get people tinkering... it would be awesome to have the nav screen play dvd without paying a bunch of cash for some type of converter... anyone got any new ideas?

I believe it only works with those HLs equipped with the rear seat entertainment. That is because the video that comes up on the Nav screen is from the DVD which is inserted in the rear seat entertainment DVD player.

ok cool, that sounds logical, so the next question is, has anyone macked/modded their nav system (w.o the rear entertainment sys) to show a dvd on it? i suppose if you're doing a long road trip, you'd want the nav anyway, so you'd have to have the nav disc in, and the dvd drive would be busy with that. oh well, thanks for the update and insight.
