Exhaust smell

I'm having a problem with a strong smell of exhaust after accelerating. Before I take my base 08 back to the dealer for service, I just wanted to find out if anyone else has this problem. It seems to happen only under a hard acceleration, like passing or having to stand on it to merge into traffic.

No problems here

Time for a trip to the dealer, and soon.

Does it smell a bit like sulphur? If so this is common on most new Toyotas. It goes away after a while as your vehicle ages and you will only notice it on the rare occasion. All three of my new Toyotas had the same problem (2003 Matrix XR, 2005 Sienna LE, less so on 2007 Camry SEV6)

Nothing to worry about. Try switching to a different gas to see if it reduces the occurance.

It is in any new exhaust. Good indicator to show that the car has not been rev hard (making the material inside of the muffler to burn initially), it comes with brand new interior smell. No extra cost .

sounds like all are correct.only thing you can do to avoid smell is install a activated carbon cabin filter.

I too am experiencing exhaust smell in my new base hl.
What I do to combat it is I turn on the recirculating air button when first get in to the car.

BUT, what annoys me the most is that the recirculating air button goes off after 5 minutes; anybody also experiencing this or is my acting faulty?

I drive thru the tunnels and Newark and they're not the most pleasant smell to intake.
I have a 3yr in the car and feel that prolong exposure to the exhaust smell will be determinental.

Service visit?
