Remote Starter Installation

I have decided to "bite the bullet" and buy the Toyota OEM Remote Starter for the 08 HL. The kit cost $346 delivered from Champion Toyota (Toyota World). I downloaded the installation instructions ahead of time, and am confident I can do it myself. There are very detailed directions and it is mostly just connecting a harness into the existing connectors after removing the majority of the driver and passenger panels.

I installed heated signal mirrors, a powered sub and aftermarket speakers in a Sequoia, and that was more involved. I will let you all know how it goes. The dealer wanted some insane amount to install one.

For sure let us know how the install goes. The dealer wanted entirely too much to install that for me.

Pictures would be great too!

I got them from the Toyota Technical Site, which cost $10 for a day.

Do you have a smart key? If you do, how does the smart key interact with the remote start?

Viper Remote Starter

Other than for compatibility and price reasons, why choose a Toyota Remote Starter over a Viper or Bulldog remote starter?

What other features does a Toyota remote starter offer?

The Viper offers security, automatic trunk opener, remote starters, additional alarms, etc.

I'm looking into purchasing a remote starter and would like to hear your feedback.

On mine to start you press the lock button on the Smartkey twice within 2 seconds and then press and hold the lock button for 3 seconds

To stop you press the unlock button

The engine will automatically stop after 10 minutes

You are supposed to be able to remove start from up to 80 feet away

With Smartkey the engine will also stop if you touch the door sensor and open the door

Is that a Toyota remote starter or Aftermarket? I want to add to my 08' limited, but did NOT know that there was a bypass made for Smartkey.

I went with the dealer installed OE part. The several local stereo/alarm shops didn't have much faith in overriding the factory alarm system. Not worth the risk especially with smartkey and future warranty issues.
I did NOT want two remote controls on my keychain which seemed to be mandatory by all the aftermarket kits.
I did not want any cutting/tapping into the factory wiring harness by the stereo shops. Electrical systems are too complex nowadays.

Pay a little more and not worrying is important too.
