I want to thank all the previous posters and the Traildust for creating this thread. I reviewed the Highlander forum for a while prior to buying my 2012 Highlander Limited -which i just did on Feb 1, 2012! My dealer couldn't get close to Jerry's prices, so I just bought an 8/100k for $944 from Jerry today. Dealer's price was $1295.
Traildust, is you can update Jerry's contact info on the sticky to include his cell number, that was how I was able to contact him. It's 620-664-8844. Being new to this forum, I didn't notice the warranty sticky until after I read this thread.
I'll post about my recent purchase in a different thread.

I recently purchased an extended warranty from Route 66 (via my credit union) as they do not sell directly to the general public. A loan office at my credit union recommended them. He said they've dealt with them (route 66) for over 10 yrs without any problems. I have also done some review of them online and I'm satisfied with what I found. Just did not want to tie myself down with Toyota.
I have 5yrs/100000 miles for $1600. This includes 24/7 road-side assistance, rental coverage and no deductible. I paid another $35 extra for full refund of $1600 should my car get totaled within the coverage period. This is transferable which increase resale value should I decide to sell in the future.
Having considered all options, I figure I can take a chance on them especially since I got this via my credit union. I have only 27K on my highlander. Also, since I got my H/L limited used and do not have all maintenance records, I do not want to risk Toyota refusing future repairs because I'm not able to produce all maintenance records.
Here's route 66 web site: https://www.route66warranty.com/asp/index.asp
Do you recommend buying an extended warranty? I just bought a 2012 Highlander. If you do recommend where should I buy and how much should I expect to pay? The sticky is old and locked so I thought there may be new information. Thanks to all. This is a great resource for information.
In my opinion No! Companies offer them because they are an excellent investment.. for the company. Thus the odds are against you benefiting from them.. on the other hand if you like the security then it is worth it and the cost is insignificant. One major caution that you will have little control over is the viability of the insuring company. The extended warranty is almost always a third party. You are making a purchase with a company that you "hope" will still be in business in 5 years time.. And like any insurance company will make every effort to deny your claim.
Are the extended warranties mentioned and purchased in the above posts through third parties, or from Toyota?
Thanks...
If its bought through Jerry Johnson, Troy or anyone thats mentioned in the Extended Warranty Sticky thread its through Toyota/TFS. There is an option to get it through a 3rd party but they generally sell the manufacturer extended warranty.

Taken from the "Extended Warranty" sticky as a reminder to anyone interested. Whether you believe in extended warranties or not, I have purchased one. I'm not advocating them one way or the other but if it gives one peace-of-mind, then it's worth it.
I am not afilliated with Mr. Johnson, Midwest Toyota or Midwest Superstore in any way but I am indebted to Toyota Nation already!
The extended warranty information is available on this forum here:
The below is the email Mr. Johnson replied to me with regarding my inquiry. As you know, dealer charges for extended warranties vary widely. I have never bought one but at the price quoted to me, I could not pass on it covering eight years. My dealer couldn't come close ($950 + 7% sales tax - 8 yrs./75,000 mi.) to my quoted price from Midwest Toyota and Mr. Johnson ($659 total).
You can see the markup and Mr. Johnson still makes a buck on it and deservedly so. I received a call from him, we reviewed the coverage, and gave him my credit card payment arrangements. He will submit my VIN number to Toyota and send me via US Mail a copy of the invoice agreement, the same receipt you would get in person from your dealer. It's as simple as that.

Why would anyone buy this prior to the factory warranty expiring? Just curious. I have a 2012 with manufacture warranty and roadside. Any advantage to buying this prior to that ending?
