Is that correct? Is it only the US built 2010 Highlander that is affected by the recall? Anyone see anything related to this.

Thanks

HA HA

According to reports I have read it is only the 2010 as the 08 and 09 were built in Japan so they supposedly have different parts.

I know for a fact the 2009 models were built in Japan as I own one that is, I believe mostly all Japanese parts and 100% constructed in Japan. That's what it said on my window sticker.

OldStyle, where did you see the info pertaining to this?

My 2010 HL was built in Japan, VIN begins with 'J' and also was stickered built in Japan from Japanese content. I bought mine mid December, my dealer had 5 Highlanders in stock, 2 Japanese built and 3 US built. The color and options that the wife and I wanted had the Japanese VIN.

Reading your letter is sounds like it had nothing to do with where it was build but what assembly was used.

Quote:
This recall will include vehicles equipped with friction levers
made with PPS material, as well as with the PA46 material, which was associated with the rough operation or slow to return symptoms
The thing that should have sounded the alarm for Toyota is the PA46 materiel was causing problems back in 2007.

Quote:
Starting in March 2007, Toyota received field technical information regarding reports of accelerator pedals demonstrating symptoms such as rough operation or being slow to return to the idle position. These reports were limited to one model (Tundra), and the accelerator pedal assemblies in those vehicles contained a friction lever made of the PA46 materia
and in 2009
Quote:
the returned accelerator pedals have the same material friction lever as previously used in the European models (PPS)
Toyota must use the same logic as city planners...you have to kill a few people at an intersection before they put in a traffic light.

Makes us pre2010 owners wonder what the assembly in our HL's is made of

Would you post OldStyle's Toyota letter in the stick on this subject.

It explains what the problem is.

Not true. Parts come from outside Japan now days.
It is true the Japanese HL was constructed (put together) in Japan.

The Toyota oil filters I get from my Toyota dealer are made in Thailand
The Toyota Camry horn I replaced the beep beep horns with were made in China.

My Japanese built 08 Highlander has had the Air bag computer replaced and the HVAC evaporator replaced and has had two recalls (minor -third row seat belt and the Chrome tail pipe tip clamp replaced)

The notion that cars assembled in Japan are better than cars assembled in the USA or Canada is crap..

Good idea...will do. It'll be up in a few minutes....

UPDATE: Okay, the document has been added to the Highlander recall sticky thread, and I've edited the title of that thread too to reflect the inclusion of the document. Thank you, gentlemen, much appreciated!

I never said that. The HA HA in the post was a reference to the user name of the poster I was talking to. Nelson Muntz. If you watch the Simpsons you'll understand.

I did say that what I read it was only those built in the US, not becuase they are inferior but as I stated because they use different parts.

As far as my 09..I am going off memory but I could swear the sticker was mostly Japanese parts...not all, but the majority. I can't swear by this, but it really has no bearing on the persons original question.
