But what is the size of the receiver/hole on the hitch ?

The factory hitch receiver, and most aftermarket receiver hitches described here, is a 2 inch CLASS 3 unit. You could install an aftermarket 1 1/4 inch CLASS 1 / 2 hitch but it doesn't make much sense when you consider the costs involved....
