Rob-
The VAIS unit doesn't scroll well for music like audiobooks. For example, I have a playlist with 500 tracks for an audiobook. It will only show the first 99. If I disconnect my iPhone/iPod then I have to scroll up to 99 but I cannot go any farther.
Maybe I have a unique situation, but with all the technology of the Highlander, the cost of the iPod interface and the tech of an iPhone/iPod I would expect the text from my songs to not be truncated, the albums to show up - possibly even album artwork, etc.
The Toyota adaptor behaves slightly better in my case due to the ability to scroll with the tune button.
Sadly no Toyota adaptor linked to the Nav system behaves very well for complex playlists, audiobooks and certain 'on the go' lists.
I also found the power plug for my VAIS adaptor did not charge my 3G iPhone. It says it is plugged in but it is not truly delivering the required voltage to charge. On a long trip with lots of usage I noticed the adaptor could not keep up with the charge. While plugged in I was loosing battery. The Toyota will actually charge.
When I got my PS lock pick and VAIS both were new and the two were not compatible in the sense that they both needed to share the same plugs and did not have piggyback connections. With modifications I would have been fine making it work, but it was not plug n play. Maybe now this is better.
