I originally bought the VAIS iPod system and the Presitge Society lock pick. I could not get them to work with my iPhone at all. Plus the way it displayed track names was horrid. I ended up with the Toyota adaptor and the PS lockpick.

It works Not as elegant an interface as I would like, but I blame my craptastic Nav system for being stupid.

I have the Vais ipod adapter, works fine, was easy to install and setup and as long is you have newer software it works fine with the iphone, the older one's you just need to load the new software to fix the charging issue with the newer iphones. Once nice thing about the Vais unit is that you can reprogram it yourself and update the software with new features, or to fix problems with newer apple hardware when they make changes that obsoletes 3rd party stuff (which they like to do). Only thing I don't like about it is that it works by playlist and doesn't give you a display to just scroll through all the songs and pick one, or browse by song, artist etc - definitely a short coming. I also have the Prestige Society lockpick - works great, had it for a year, but if I was doing it now, I would get the Coastaletch.com unit, it is cheaper, doesn't require you to mount buttons on the dash somewhere (works using touch screen), had one in my Lexus and it worked very well.

Rob-

The VAIS unit doesn't scroll well for music like audiobooks. For example, I have a playlist with 500 tracks for an audiobook. It will only show the first 99. If I disconnect my iPhone/iPod then I have to scroll up to 99 but I cannot go any farther.

Maybe I have a unique situation, but with all the technology of the Highlander, the cost of the iPod interface and the tech of an iPhone/iPod I would expect the text from my songs to not be truncated, the albums to show up - possibly even album artwork, etc.

The Toyota adaptor behaves slightly better in my case due to the ability to scroll with the tune button.

Sadly no Toyota adaptor linked to the Nav system behaves very well for complex playlists, audiobooks and certain 'on the go' lists.

I also found the power plug for my VAIS adaptor did not charge my 3G iPhone. It says it is plugged in but it is not truly delivering the required voltage to charge. On a long trip with lots of usage I noticed the adaptor could not keep up with the charge. While plugged in I was loosing battery. The Toyota will actually charge.

When I got my PS lock pick and VAIS both were new and the two were not compatible in the sense that they both needed to share the same plugs and did not have piggyback connections. With modifications I would have been fine making it work, but it was not plug n play. Maybe now this is better.
