Radio losing functionality (Base model)

I have a base 09 HL with basic radio. My wife reported it to me several times but I personally experienced it only once. Once in a while the only the volume on the radio works, any other button on control (including station presets and functions) forces the unit to turn on/of. If I have CD inside it gets ejected. Turning car off and on does nothing. Than after 20-30 min the radio starts working again. Since I couldn’t replicate it at will who at the dealer going to believe me? Anybody else had the same situation.

I just got a new phone with the video recording and think eventually I’ll be able to capture it. I do not drive HL every day.

I have had the Opposite problem -- everything worked Except the volume knob, after about 5 min it started working. This only happened once and has not re-occurred. Mine is the higher grade 6-disc model in an 08 Sport.

I have a 09 sport with JBL system and it happened to me once! Everything freeze except the volume control button. I had to turn off the engine, remove the key, wait for a few mins then start everything back up again. Since then, the radio is working fine. (knock on wood....)
Have you try disconnect the battery?? I am not sure if this will help but it doesn't hurt to try. Good luck!

I had the EXACT same problem. Just take a picture of it and show the dealer. I took 3 or 4 pictures on my cell and they replaced it no questions asked. Just remember to jot down your radio stations so you dont forget them like i did!

It happened again today. I was about 3 miles from the dealer so stopped at the service dpt to let them see. The new radio is on order.

Service order was completed in under 30 sec and the parts man was sitting near and ordered during next 10 sec. I was in and out under 3 min.

Do we need more bad publicity to get service at this level or what? You should see large number of workers, I think they had more technicians / service writers working on gas pedals than customers.

I've had the same problem on my 2009 base model for the past 3 months. The radio display fades slightly, the volume control becomes unresponsive, and pressing any button/knob shuts the radio down. It seems that using a CD or the AUX connection starts the problem. I told the service manager at my local dealership, and he seems to have heard of this compliant. He just ordered a new radio on the spot. Will pick it up next week.
