08 Cruise Control Firmware Upgrade?

I posted my 08HL thoughts a while ago after a 1800 mile drive out to the east coast and back. One of my gripes is that the cruise control software is overly aggressive about maintaining speed. While driving through the Smokey Mountains I simply disengaged the cruise do to its method of attempting to maintain speed. Recently Wolfpackers said this:

"Wish I had asked them to fix the stupid cruise control so it resumes gradually, but I don't think there is a fix for that."

This is exactly what I experienced -- an all or nothing approach to speed maintenance! Any word on when or even if there are plans to address this?

Hi, Eric. Just some two cents here, but at least with my 08 HL the cruise control operates with all the quirkiness of all the other cruise controls I've ever used. They just don't handle hills well, and the steeper the hill the more spastic or overblown the response by the cruise control. Over the years I've made it a habit of turning off the system whenever encountering uneven roads. I just think it's generic with cruise control because it's a "dumb" electronic system trying to carry out its functions without the benefit of human eyesight seeing what's coming ahead on the road and compensating accordingly.

I completely agree with TrailDust, unless this is your first vehicle ALL cruise control work this way. So far I've owned 9 cars and rented countless more and they all behave the same way on hills.

I disagree. The cruise control on our '08 hybrid Highlander is so aggressive as to be undriveable on even mild rolling hills. My '08 Tundra does not behave that way on the same hills; neither did the Sienna replaced by the HL. Our '99 Dodge Caravan didn't do that on the same hills. My Mini Cooper S didn't either.

I've never seen a car behave this way in cars I've owned or rented.. Even up a mild grade the accelerator really goes down and the car takes off. If it's a small hill (we're talking about roads through neighborhoods, 40-45 mph speed limit), you're really moving as you crest the hill.

It's not right and the software needs to be adjusted.

Keep in mind the gearing and hp of the vehicles. BTW, you drive with cruise on in neighborhood roads?

This road in particular has a speed limit of 45, little cross traffiic, and it's easy to speed on. There are more homes than on a country road, but fewer than in a subdivision. To avoid tickets I'll set the cruise control (I drive a several mile stretch of it).

That's sounds like a nice stretch of drive with a convertible.
