NAV freezing on 08

Few weeks ago after clicking on the NAV button it shows the "startup" screen with the blue picture of the globe/satellite...Its just stays here and never starts the NAV? It worked for the first 2 months owning the car, then stopped for no apparent reason. I recently had some work done so the battery was disconnected for a long time and reset everything - however this didnt help the problem either.
I have the upgrade disk for the newer version, but not sure if I should even attempt to load it if the NAV wont start?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Any ideas for me anyone? I took it in for the recall (got the new crappy floormats) and had them look at it - they claimed it wasn't factory installed so they had no idea....I am 99% sure it was? I did buy it used, but its the same NAV system everyone has so assumed it was from Toyota!

Take pictures and let us see - we can tell you if it's a factory unit. Did you try removing your disc and checking for scratches & such??

This is not a factory installed navigation system. This is an after market system installed - it appears to be made by a company named Advent. You will need to research this system and see if you can figure out how to get it fixed.

BTW - I did some more research. The model number is amm12n - if you google Advent amm12n manual - you should be able to get a copy of the instruction manual which might help. Good luck!

I actually have the manual in the car, I guess I never realized it wasn't factory installed! So audiovox tells me $282 for a flat rate repair! Uhh...no thanks!
I would rather replace it for that price, the interface is complete crap! What do most people have installed? Whatever I get I will want an unlocked version so kids can watch movies etc, might even go all out and get a 2nd screen installed in headrest or something... Any thoughts there?

Well I called and actually got some "support" they said to take out the SD card from the GPS module and re-insert it, or unplug/plug the unit. Now the issue is finding where this thing is! Its not under the dash area or in the glove box. He said its about the size of a cigarette pack with a SD card and 2 cables, one going to antenna, one going to the head unit. I found the antenna above the rear windshield but not sure where the wire goes to...Any thoughts on where an installer might have put this?

FWIW - Taking off wood panel around radio and then pulling radio unit out with 2 screws and everything was stashed behind the radio. Unfortunately resetting it didnt fix it.
