option codes

I'm looking for an 08 HiHy and I plan to pull a small camping trailer with it. I want to make sure I get one with the factory tow prep package, not just the hitch.

I found in another thread here a picture that shows how to look for the transmission cooler under the driver's side fog light. I was hoping for something a little more definitive.

Some other cars I have owned in the past had a sticker inside the glovebox or on the driver's door jamb which listed all the option codes the vehicle was built with. Does Toyota mark their vehicles like this anywhere?

Also, the option listing on the Intellichoice site (link below) lists four different trailer hitch receivers (DH,DH6,DH7,DH9). Any idea what the difference is?

Hello Chuck14,

Welcome to Toyota Nation...

I looked at the codes you referenced and those are all Port Installed hitch codes. That code is for the hitch reciever not the Tow Package which is a factory installed option. The codes you saw very by region as Southeast Toyota, the Gulf states, does things differently...

Unlike older GM's Toyota does not have a label in the glove box or spare tire cover with the options codes. Even if it did the Port or Dealer Installed options would not be shown. Other than a quick glance at the transmission oil cooler the most accurate test is to have a Toyota dealer run the VIN and pull up the vehicle to see what options are installed.... My Towing Package is Code TO on the Window Sticker.

Also keep in mind the HiHy has a lower tow rating then the standard gas Highlander. I believe it is 3300 pounds for the HiHy versus 5000 pounds for the 3.5L gas...

There are several towing threads I suggest you look in the "sticky" section as well as doing a search...
