I know the traditional way of measuring MPG. But, in my highlander, in the small display, it says "mileage after refill", Can I belive it?. Is this the same as Avg. MPG display/calculations like my Rav4?.
I also see the green bar going from 0 to 30-40 (probably for instant mileage).
I am drving very carefully always trying to be under 2000RPM even at starting point at the Red lights. I would like to have MPG like TrailDust.
Oh, yah, I meant to post up in the other thread what my shift points were since you asked about them last week. Turns out if I'm on quiet back streets like in a residential neighborhood, my first shift point is at 2,500, then 2,250, then 2,000 for easygoing acceleration. If I'm on a road with lots of lights like Pacific Coast Highway I average 2,800 for the first shift, 2,600 for the next, and 2,300-2,400 for the third. I don't know if that'll help you any, but that's where I generally shift. I definitely take my foot off the gas early and coast a lot, but because of the added wind resistance I can't coast as far as I do in my Avalon.
BTW, we had a thread a few months ago about mileage and how well it relates to the display. When I find it I'll post up the link.
Edit: I couldn't find it but I would swear there was a thread a while back about the display and mileage after refill. Bummer. For what it's worth I did come across this thread and this thread that talk about mileage. Just throwing them out to you since you're interested in HL mileage info.

TrailDust, Many Thanks, Yes, I am very interested to achieve good mileage as I mostly drive city only. As you may already know, I traded in my 2010 Rav4 and bought 2010 HL. I am being careful about my expenditure.

I don't want to take this thread off tangent from your original question, but I thought you might be interested in the best mileage I ever got in the HL on the freeway. I filled up in Nevada with non-ethanol fuel, had four adults aboard including myself, and about 300-350 pounds of luggage and cargo. Did 70 MPH over about 400 miles and came out with 25.3 MPG. That just amazes me for a vehicle in this class of SUV.

I squeezed out 26mpg on a drive from Penn to Ohio last year with AC running, 2 adults, 2 kids and loaded hatch doing 65mph which we all know is really 62mph.
Just for shitz and giggles, I pushed it to 27mpg on a hwy doing 55mph. Could not get it to go passed that though.
City driving is not gonna get you anywhere near that for a fact, too much idle time, stop and go, even if you have the lightest pedal foot in the world.
For the 26mpg trip, once I got off the hwy and hit the local roads, it dropped back to the EPA mileage which is still very good for a non-hybrid mid-size SUV.
BTW, back to your original question, the mileage after refill is based on your previous mpg from what I gather. I notice that when my previous tank was mostly city miles and then fill up for a road trip, the mile countdown is much slower. Just compare it when it ticks down for 1 mile and check the hwy mile markers. You travel much further than the HL's distance countdown.

Two good points. I also had A/C on the whole time, which is good for a several percent drop in mileage. On the 70MPH I had my cruise control set at 73 to compensate. Can't wait to get those 255 tires in the near future which should get the speed to within +1 of reality I estimate. That I look forward to!

Over 33,800 miles my "mpg after refill" averaged .17MPG higher than my manually calculated MPG. I'd call it good. I believe it is more accurate if you refill when near-empty as the most it was ever off was 2MPG and that time it only took 8 gallons to fill.
