Factory Hitch & Bike Rack

Besides towing, one of the reasons I wanted a hitch was to be able to use a receiver mounted bike rack. Even with self-installation, the factory hitch is fairly expensive. That said, I opted to install the factory option because I thought it looked better and it gave me a full 16" of clearance to the bottom of the receiver. My previous vehicle had an aftermarket hitch and the potential to drag on obstructions and severe departure angles is a real concern, especially with a bike rack or luggage carrier in the receiver.

I purchased a 2 bike carrier made in the US by a company call 1UpUSA. It is called the Quik Rack and while it costs more that the average rack ~$500, the design and workmanship is quite impressive and it looks good on my Highlander Sport. Why I liked it:
1. All aluminum CNC
2. Clean and functional design
3. Holds bike by the wheels
4. American made
5. Great ground clearance that slopes up from the receiver.
6. Load and unload in seconds
7. Tilts for easy access to rear, plenty of room to get in the rear hatch.
8. Folds up nicely when unloaded
9. Absolutely will not rattle or sway when locked in place.

It is by no means a cheap solution, but if you want something that looks good on your HL and will last a long time, you might check it out. I've got a full album posted at:

Or here below is quick photo of the rack shown holding the bikes
Regards OB

very nice. Once it gets warm here, I am going to install the factory hitch, and then later buy this rack. Very impressed. How much work is it to take the rack off the hitch?

The rack is held to the hitch with a jack screw that requires a special allen wrench. The jack screw is an anti-tamper design that prevents someone from removing the rack with a conventional allen wrench. Simply loosen this one bolt and pull the rack off and thats it. Because this design tightens the connection from the inside of the receiver tube, there is 0 slack. The boxes that the racks are shipped in are heavy enough that they can be reused to store the folded rack wherever you like.
The rack also ships with a removable adaptor plate that allows you to use it in a 1 1/4" receiver tube.

5 Bike solution

Nice rack. I unfortunately had to find a 5 bike solution. Ended up going with a Swagman hitch rack and a Yakima Uploader.
