I bought a 2010 Highlander Limited V6 AWD on December 26th. I have conflicting thoughts about it. I love the vehicle, but feel that I made a mistake buying it.
First, I bought it because I needed an AWD vehicle. Secondly, I bought it because I was able to get a pretty good deal and was supposed to be able to get a tax incentive.
I didn't get the tax incentive - because I make too much money.
I didn't get such a great deal - because I got 3.9% financing.
Now, the vehicle isn't worth much due to all the recent issues.
If I would have waited, I probably wouldn't have bought this car.

So you're smart enough that you make too much money.
But, you're not smart enough to figure out with all that money you should have paid cash and not financed, or shopped harder?
And it's the vehicles' fault somehow??
Sorry to be a smart aleck but you probably won't find too much pitty here.
I do feel for you on the problem issues.
I'm feeling a bit of regret on my purchase. I bought a highlander sport just before the se came out. (Not knowing the se was going to debut in about a month). I paid about $2k more for the sport vrs se and didn't get leather....and got the big expensive 19"wheel/rubber combo that have pretty crappy traction in Wis winter weather. And, now the reputation problem. Top this all off with the fact my next door neighbor is the Ford dealer in town.....I no doubt hurt his feelings....but now he's probably laughing when I drive by.
You should have known about the first two items before you bought it.

Just feeling some regret - anyone else?

No regret at all. I didn't buy my Highlander for financial concerns and/or its resale value, but instead for its physical features, so to speak, like its interior room, fuel economy, off-road capability, interior comfort. Everybody has different criteria, but to me I have no regrets buying the Highlander.

I don't get why some people worry so much about the value of their vehicles if they don't plan on selling/trading it anytime soon.
I don't get it either... I suppose if you attach your self worth to what you're driving, you're trading in for a new model every three years... I think that's a waste. I went with the Highlander when I got rid of my 98 Camry XLE with 190,000 miles. And the only reason I switched when I did was because I was about to PCS halfway across the country and needed a bigger vehicle that could tow.
I laugh when I hear people complaining about how they can't afford things like health insurance, etc. and want the gov't to give it to them when they have two vehicles purchased in the last two years with $5k rims. Some people just have didn't priorities, I suppose.
My only regret is that I don't have a magic crystal ball that told me 2 1/2 months after I purchased the vehicle that Toyota would be offering 0% financing. But since I don't see myself getting one of those anytime soon and I will be the proud owner of my HL for a long time, no regrets.
No regrets here, we love it.
Haven't seen any price drops around here because of the recent issues on used or new ones.
I am looking for a Tacoma to replace a ford explorer and they are not giving them away either.
You want to see resale value drop, then buy a GM or Chrysler.
Good points everyone (except for the crybaby comment of course) -
I should've known that I wasn't eligible for the tax incentive. This is my fault and has nothing to do with the other issues.
Regarding the value of the vehicle - you're all correct - I should just drive the car for a few years and forget about the value - it will be back to normal within a year or so anyway.
I guess all the negative publicity got me down - but everyone's clear reasoning on this subject helped me.
Thanks for the input everyone!
