OK, I've only had my HL for a day, but there are two things I thought were just plain dumb.
First off, why do we need 4 cup holders between the front two seats? I wish the two under the cover were gone and replaced with a little rectangular compartment for your phone/mp3 player. I may do this myself anyway.
Second, why can't the Bluetooth just be a speaker phone. I don't want to store a phone number for everyone I know in the car when I already have a phonebook on my phone.
Rant off...

You can remove the center section in the rear cup holders, converting it to a rectangular compartment just like you wanted.
You don't have to store your address book if you don't want to, but frankly, I'm not sure why one wouldn't. I find it much more convenient when I receive a call to look on the screen and see the caller ID than try to dig my phone out of my pocket or holster.
I'll be the first to complain about the nanny navigation, but I don't see these two features as dumb.
I find the four cup holder handy. I typically cary a drink bottle with me which I place in the centre console (it's easier to reach there than in the door). If I buy some drinks via a drive-in restaurant then I still have cup holders spare to place them in. Also, I've removed the insert for the main cup holdes to suit my larger bottle, and use the covered ones for soft drink cans which are smaller. You can never have too many cup holders and the highlander/kluger certainly has plenty front and back.
I removed the center piece and converted it into a storage box on my first day. Good place to store my sunglasses and cell phone. Still have no idea what to put in the conversation mirror box though...
OK, I removed the center section. It's not quite a rectangle now, but it's still better than it was before. If the tabs weren't there I could put my wallet and phone in there, but they are just a tad too big to fit.
I'm thinking about routing my iPod cable into that compartment. Then I could plug the iPod in and close the lid.

Me too. I took it out before I left the Dealer. Silly me, I just put my sunglasses in the hole behind the mirror.
As I said, I just don't want to have to input all of my numbers into the system. On my bluetooth headset when I initiate a call it goes straight into voice mode on my phone. I say Call XYZ and it dials it directly through the phone. There's no reason the Toyota system couldn't have implemented a similar mode. Now I have to learn yet another set of proprietary instructions. Like I said, its a minor rant.
I did receive a call on my way home from work and the bluetooth system was very clear and easy to hear. I think it was better than my top rated headset.
