Hi folks. New owner and board member. I scanned the owners manual w/o any luck so I though I'd ask this question? Is there any way to disable the auto door lock and seat belt warning? I turned off the door lock think on my Silverado. I'm not sure why you can't do it on the Highlander as some emergency personnel claim that getting in an accident and having all your doors locked is a bad thing. Next, what's with the perpetual alarm for the seat belt? All my other vehicles give me a warning and then go off. It's not that I don't wear my seat belt but I don't wear it in my neighborhood. Thanks
As it's a Toyota I believe only the dealer can do this. Call them. I know that my wife wanted the headlights to go out when you turned off the car (rather than 30 seconds) and also the seat belt chime turned off, and they had to hook up a computer to the car and do it through a laptop. A regular person can not do it.
In the manual you will see (near the back) several features that can be adjusted to user preference, but they must be done at the dealer. Thank goodness she worked there otherwise I wonder if they'd charge a visit fee. Of course, it only took 5 - 10 minutes, so maybe they'll do it for free.

And as the previous post states the dealer has to do it.
Print out the Custom Parameter list and take it with you to the dealer.
A lot of dealers have never been asked to change customizable settings and they give the " can't be done" service adviser answer. If you get this answer ask to speak to their senior tech and show them the features you want changed.
Good luck

(1) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (note: that's "ON", not "READY", so with the foot OFF the brake pedal).
(2) Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO".
(3) Turn the ignition switch off.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position again.
(5) Press the ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds or as soon as the chimes go off) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more (note: some people swore by waiting for longer, up to 45 secs).
(6) Continue holding down the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the driver side seat belt - about 12 seconds (note: some folks claim you have to both buckle AND unbuckle)
(7) Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-oFF".
(8) Press the ODO/TRIP switch to change the display to "b-oFF".
(9) Turn the ignition switch off.
(10)Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(11)Check that no buzzer sounds.
Repeat from passenger side if desired

The Following User Says Thank You to R00K For This Useful Post:
Did this work on your '10 SE 4WD? I just tried it on my '10 SE 4WD and it didn't come up with the b-on nor b-off prompt.
I did as you said, but please clarify something if you could. In step 6, while holding down the ODO button and buckling the belt for 12 seconds, does the "b-on" prompt come up while still holding the button, or only once you release the button? It did neither for me, but just want to know what to look for.
As far as it being a great feature? HAVING the seatbelt is a great feature; annoying the shit out of you if you don't do what other people THINK you should do is not. You can't legislate personal responsibility.
There are two other previous threads on here I found from a search in about 30 seconds. The synopsis of this one: Seatbelt Chime disable? is that the seatbelt chime CAN be disabled, the trick is just finding the dealer willing to do it. If you mention to them that the Toyota chime is an "Enhanced" safety feature and chimes much longer than the legislated chime, they might be more willing to do it. All of the dealers CAN do it and it only takes a minute; if they say no, it just means they're not willing.
