Problems (or is this supposed to be like this) with the bluetooth...

I have a question... I have a 2010 toyota HIghlander which I bough two nights ago. Love the car but am having problems with the Bluetooth. I synced the phone (Motorola Droid) with the car and am able to dial and receive calls by using the phone but not by the phone. The cars radio does not have the BT with the signal bars on it at any time. Ive followed every direction, to no avail. What am I doing wrong or is this how its supposed to be? BTW, I dont have Nav, just the standard radio. Thanks for your advise! Love the forum!
