Tow Wire Harness for 2010 Highlander

All, I'm new to the forum and new to the Highlander. Mine is a 2010 Limited that I have had for 2 weeks. I just ordered and received a factory hitch and wire harness and tried to install them today. The hitch (PT228-69080) was simple and quick to install and I was impressed with how well in finishes off the vehicle. The fascia looks great. The problem is the wiring harness (PT219-48871). It does not appear to be the correct one for my vehicle. The converter module fits the plug under the dash, however the connector in the rear is not the right one. They sold me a 4 pin connector but the connector under the right rear panel is for a 7 wire harness. Does anyone know the correct part number that I need? Thanks for your help.

to Toyota Nation, and to the Highlander forum too!

Take a look in the Modifications & Maintenance sticky thread located at the top of the Highlander forum page, which has links to the 7-wire harness setup, etc., and should have all the information you're seeking. Still, if you have questions about the harness and such by all means update this thread so the other members can lend you a hand.

I'm sorry, what is a sticky thread? I'm not familiar with the term.

By the way, in the mean time I search a little more and I found the correct connector to plug into, so I'm good to go. Getting ready to pull my boat this weekend.

Thanks.

No problem. A sticky thread is a thread that is stuck, like a post-it note, to the top of a forum for easy reference. Forums stick threads that have very useful information that people refer to frequently. Take a look at the main page of the Highlander forum and you'll see the sticky threads at the top colored in blue. Here's a link to the DIY Modifications & Maintenance sticky. Also, you should look through the Common Problems & Solutions sticky which has additional info for you. Enjoy!

Yeah, the fact that Toyota designed this vehicle to tow 5000 lbs with a 4 pin connector and not a 7 pin connector has caused alot of us to scratch our heads wondering what the hell they were thinking. I guess they didn't expect brakes on a trailer to be a useful thing to have while towing up to 5000lbs.

I'll probably go ahead and do my own hitch also, fairly easy? Any drilling? Thanks!

No drilling at all - it's a bolt-in install. Easy to do, especially if you have a helper to hold the hitch in place while you bolt it in.

I bought the Hidden Hitch w/wiring and installed the entire thing in less than 45 minutes. I also only paid $200 shipped.
