I have recently (last few days) gotten a black 08 highlander limited which i absolutely love. I traded my old 2001 Lexus Rx for this car and i have zero regrets except for one thing, the headlights. My old Lexus had factory xenon headlights and i installed slyvania silverstar ultra's for the fog lights. Needless to say i could see everything on the road. I would like to install a set of 9003 Bi-xenon headlights into my new highlander. I have already put a set of H11 Slyvania Xtravision into the fog lights which helped some. I know that these are reflector lenses and not projectors so there will be glare so i am already planning on lowering the angle of the headlights. (I know reflectors work with xenon as my old Rx300 had reflectors) My question is simple, I've been reading through the posts here and i know people have put xenon into this car, which brand do yall recommend. I found a site ( http://www.hidguy.net/index.php?main...rkk3pns2tf59o7 ) hidguy.net that seemed pretty good. They used xentec or autovizion ballasts, and had a 2 year bulb/ballast warrenty. Are those good ballasts or should i be looking elsewhere for a kit. Oh, also i would be getting the 5k temp.
Thanks!
Patrick
oh and i forgot, i am planning on taking the car to the dealership to disable the DRL in the next few days. Have anyone of you taken it to the dealership for this reason? Did they charge you?
Why not pay and get a proper retrofit? This is from Lightwerkz that did my Sequoia retrofit. If my wife ever decides she wants brighter lights I will have them do her Highlander.
This is my Sequoia they did with a Lexus LS460 bi-xenon conversion, worth every penny

That would be awesome to do, but the only problem is that I have no idea how to actually retrofit the headlights (given there are tons of vids on youtube about it). And I only have enough money for basically the xenon kit and thats about it. so thats why retrofit is out of the question unfortunately.

I see you're the model for their products, I hope they gave you a good deal
I don't know why the Highlander doesn't have projectors already.. the 4Runner refresh in 06' added projectors.. the 2007 Camry has projectors... the 2008 Highlander has no projectors. The base Mazda3 comes with projectors and basically every midsize Kia sedan, suv and van comes with them STANDARD.
I'm anxious to see if they refresh the HL for 2011 and if it will have projectors and a panoroof?

Yea, i don't understand why the highlander doesn't come with an option for HID's or projectors, but hey Toyota still made a great car. anyway, back to the original question, are the xentec ballasts good or do i need to look at the autovizion ones, OR should i be looking elsewhere.
Thanks
I installed a bi-xenon pnp kit on my HL because I was fooled by a picture posted on here. A forum member posted a picture with both headlights lit. On one side was the pnp kit and the other was factory. He posted pictures of it taken against a garage/wall and it looked like there was very minimal glare. I went off and purchased myself one, lowered the alignment and I was still getting high beamed from other drivers! I decided to see for myself since I couldn't believe it, so I drove in a separate car and it was indeed blinding! What I failed to notice in the forum member's post is that his pictures were shot from a couple of feet away!
Just save up and get a complete kit from theretrofitsource.com and do it right! You will be very happy in the end. It isn't that difficult to do at all. The only difficult portion is the alignment. Mine is off aligned a bit but not enough for me to take apart the headlights again.

my best suggestion would then be to wait until you can afford it. Everything else is just a bandaid solution at this point.
ok i guess ill just wait and get a retrofit, ill just get some silverstar ultra's or something in the mean time for the headlights. Thanks everyone
Good choice, I have SS/SS Ultra all around in our Highlander and it's quite sufficient. Everytime I see a car that has "PnP" hids in them I give them a bit of glare and turn on my HID hi's and halogen hi's. It's quite spectacular
