Just bought a '10 Highlander and when I got it home I noticed the rear wheel wells are lined with carpeting. Is this for sound deadening and were these supposed to be removed by the dealer prior to delivery? Seems odd to have carpet inside the wheel wells of a vehicle.
a lot of newer cars have this. my wifes 2007 altima, my fathers acura, etc. it believe it is for sound. Stays pretty clean on our altima. Just a quick hose down and it looks perfect. better than i can say about some of plastics i have seen with some time on them

Ditto, I'd be interested in seeing any pics you can post up.
I added foam "internally" when I removed my interior side paneling during the 3rd row seat swap. Figured while I had the area exposed why not help deaden any sound generated by the well well.

Ours has carpet as well. Noticed it when my wheel well brush didn't remove small pieces of grass from the wheel well. Good rinse and it's fine, but this is the first vehicle I've had with carpet there.
It makes me wonder if there were any changes to the suspension on the 2010 model to compel them to place the carpet there? If they were to make changes to the HL based on customer input, I'd have thought they'd tackle the interior rattles issue first before dealing with road noise complaints. That is assuming they listen to owner complaints at all.....

Our '08 has the carpet...wonder if it has to do with being 4x4 or not.
