Canada Letter from Toyota: VVT-i Oil Hose

Heads up for fellow Canadian (possible US) HL owners:
Received a "Customer Satisfaction Campaign" letter to have the VVT-i Oil hose replaced at no cost.
Affected models are: 2008 M.Y. Highlander, 2006-09 M.Y. RAV4, 2005-09 M.Y. Avalon, 2007-09 M.Y. Camry, 2007-09 M.Y. Sienna.

Here's the blurb on the issue:
""..determined on affected vehicles, the rubber portion of the engine oil supply hose for the VVT-i actuator on the cylinder head may develop a small crack due to the use of improper rubber material. These cracks can develop inside the oil hose from exposure to small amounts of corrosive components in positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) gases. "

Hey, I had my '08 Highlander serviced last week to put back my summer tires back on and they informed me about the recall before I even received the letter so the dealer went ahead and performed it for me. I finally received the recall notice for the hose and the floor mats yesterday.

Neat coincidence: dealership called us 10 mins ago to let us know about this "campaign".
Points for pro-activeness and an oh-so sexy voice of the service dept gal

Did they replace the rubber hose with another or did they replace the whole line with the metal line?
Thanks!

Good question the Camry campaign called for replacing the rubber hose with another rubber hose.

I hope they don't replace my "replaced" metal line with a updated rubber one the next time I go without them asking me first. :O

Is there a Campaign code # on your letter?

I just checked with my US dealer. They have not seen this campaign yet.

He did state that previous campaign's on Avalons, Rav's etc have just replaced the rubber hose with a revised rubber hose.

He is looking into when the campaign will be coming to the US and what if any cost offset there would be to use the metal tube instead of the rubber.

I left him with info from this forum (jwall's excellent write up) and he will be researching it for me.

He agrees it is not a 3 1/2 hour job and it would take what jwall stated, a little more that an hour.

Will post what he finds out.

vinny, only number I can see on the letter that can be a CC# is SOSH-922-1A
otherwise they have our HL's VIN and that's it.

I found an interesting link. Some of the links in it have expired but it shows the owner frustration with Toyota over this and how they are doing this fix on the cheap
