Australia How to remove Rear Entertainment System

In Australia, the Highlander (called Kluger in Australia) rear entertainment system video and audio is not relayed to the factory head unit sound system. The only way to listen to audio from the rear entertainment system is using the IR headsets.

I want to be able to listen to the DVD audio without wearing headsets. One option was to try to hard wire a FM transmitter and tune it in on the head unit. I cannot seem to work out how to open up the unit to have a look for an audio out signal.

Has anyone removed the Rear Entertainment System ?

Anyone give me instructions or even photos ?

Thanks in advance.

the Highlander also have a head phone jack with volume control on the side of screen. You can buy the same plug used for Ipod thru the aux port but much longer and plug that into the Aux port and you will get sound thru the speakers when u need it. that is the simple way of solving your problem without taking your car apart..

Good luck!

wow that is crazy! I know you pay more for your highlander then we do.. Any how if you wanna take the entertainment out. you have to remove the cover to expose the four 10mm bolts underneat. the cover is held on by 4 plastic clips.

If you sit in the back seat with the screan closed you would have to pull down on the edge one side at a time to get the cover off. once thats off you can unscrew the unit..

hope this helps

Thanks for your help, so if I was sitting on the back seat which side would I pull down first ? The side facing me (with the buttons facing me) or the back of the unit (where the screen hinge is) ? or perhaps the driver or passenger side ?

Do I pull directly down ? Do I need to be forceful ?

I'm not sure if this would take care of what you're looking for? I have their system in my Toyota Sequoia with factory Nav/rear DVD player and it allows me to watch DVDs/listen to DVD's through the factory system.
