Dooh! Wife found a button to close the rear hatch.

Had my Highlander for more than a year and could not figure out why Nanny Toyota did not put a button to open and close the rear hatch via the motor at the rear.

Wife found that when the hatch is opened, there is a button on the left side on the underside (interior) of the hatch door that closes it with the motor!

Dooh!

Wish one of the buttons near the top of the license plate on the out side would open it electrically (instead of just manually).

Congratulations on your discovery. Perhaps that is why they throw in an Owner's Manual with every purchase of a new vehicle.

I do agree with you on the button by the license plate. I also wish it would open the door electrically.

Just picked up my '10 HL Limited yesterday and was reading the manual on this very same subject. My guess is they never put an auto open swith by the license plate is probably because it would be a safety issue. Your standing right in front of the tailgate and then all of a sudden you have to step out of the way quickly enough to get out of the way for the tail gate to open.

I had my HL for about 3 months before I saw that button.

It was actually while I was at the car wash and the dude washing it clicked the button. Good thing I was looking.

I do need to get around to reading the manual again, it's like an encyclopedia though; especially the nav manual.
