Just bought a 2010 HL Limited with the MFD/Backup camera without NAV. I can not see any difference in Day Mode on the MFD. The manual does not explain what it does.
Is there a Night Mode?
I have the brightness turned all the way up for daytime, then I have to go through all of the Display menus and adjustments to dim it at nighttime. Why does it not do this automatically like my $150 Garmin GPS?

Any tips or tricks to setting this up?
Thanks for the help.
Just let me say to the 'Nation' and the Highlander forum. I have the Navigation screen and it it automatically changes contrast when the headlights come on but the MFD does not change brightness levels nor have I had a reason to change it. It is perfectly readable the way it is, day or night. There is a Day Mode, ON or OFF setting and mine is OFF. The brightness level is at the mid-point.

i believe it keeps the screen at day brightness all the time. Even when the headlights are on.
As far as I can tell it doesn't do anything. As mention before, mine has been in the 'OFF' setting since I picked up the HL last August and I never noticed any change in the MFD brightness whether the lights were on or not. Today I changed the setting to 'ON' and again did not notice any change with the headlights on or off.

UPDATE. I have noticed that the with the settings above, my MFD does change brightness although not greatly. The brightness is controlled by the same sensor that automatically controls the level of the dash lights. It has nothing to do with the sensor that automatically turns the headlights on/off. This sensor operates independently. I've noticed it more lately due to the change in daylight level at this time of year. When I pull out of the garage shortly after 6AM, the dash lights are dim since the sensor sees a low light level. After driving for about 5-10 minutes, the dash brightens along with the MFD since the overall surrounding light level has increased. The headlights BTW, are still on and it takes that sensor about another 15 minutes to turn them off.
