I did a search and found that on many models the recirculate button comes on automatically. Many who live in big cities or follow heavy traffic like this.
I DON'T!
When I got my hl the only interior color was black. So parked in the Wisconsin spring sun it can be cool outside and the interior heats up like crazy.
So when I turn on the car I think it would be easier for the car to cool the "already cool" fresh air from outside and pump it into the interior and get that hot stale air out. But the darn inside air button always goes on.
So, is there anyway to take the "brains" out of the switch and leave it up to me the owner to turn it on or off without going to the dealer? Or, can the dealer even change the feature for me?

If the interior is very warm I have also experienced the recirculating button activating on it's own. There is no workaround to this as the computer has determined that it wants to cool the car as fast as possible and wants to run the AC and recirculate to do it. It's strange that the computer does remember the last state of the AC button but not the recirculate.
When I start the car I just check to see what state the recirculate button is in and place it where I want overriding the computer.

One of the reasons I went with the Base model. I want to operate the climate controls when I want to, not when the computer tells me I need them. I'm a huge fan of technology, but this is one instance where I'll gladly retain manual control.

I believe using the recirculate air with AC cools the interior faster than using fresh air. Since recirculate changes the hot air inside to cold, and fresh air only tries to pump outside in. If the outside air is much cooler than the cabin, just roll down the windows, with 4 windows down, it'll cools the cabin much faster than some vents.

The dealer can reprogram it so that it is driver controlled. I had a deal worked out with my dealer to have that done when I signed the lease on my '09. Unfortunately they were very busy and were not able to do it before I picked it up. They did say I could drop by later and have it done. That was last August. I haven't bothered yet. I believe luck123 did have it done at the same dealership.

Yes, it is part of the programmable features in the vehicle. I had my auto recirc turned off by the dealer. This has been discussed several times before, and features that programmable were posted sometime ago. But they are also available in your manual.
