Michelin Hydro-Edge

Have any of you folks had any experience using Michelin Hydro-Edge tires on your Highlanders?

I am shopping for a more "efficient" replacement for my wife's '03 Honda Pilot.

As we also have an '05 & '08 Prius (still can't figure out the plural for Prius) I thought the Hybrid Highlander would be a natural selection.

However, after spending some time reading in the HyHi forum there are some real concerns about tire selection and winter driving performance with the "4WD" system in use on the HyHi.

As this vehicle would be used at our retirement home in Northern Utah I am understandably concerned. Several folks even recommended that one would be better off just buying the FWD HyHi and using snow tires (Blizzak or Xice2) for the winter months.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Thank you

I don't think H-E is designed for 4x4 SUV. (Maybe I am wrong. At least I can't find this option on Costco or TireRack website). I do have H-E on my sedan and they are very very good during the rain season here. Driving Up and Down hills with light snow condition is also great. But they are still all seasons tire. Don't even think they can replace you winter tires if you travel lot in winter with snows and ice. Driving down a icy hill is so scary.

Now that you bring that up... I recall that I could not find the HE tires at Costco for my Honda Element... although I do have them on my Sienna Van where I think they do a good job.

Thank you for reminding me of this.....

I should probably start another thread on the merits of FWD vs. Hy-Highlander 4WD-i.

This has been discussed in other threads, but perhaps I could get the latest feelings on the subject.

Resurrect one of the old threads if you go that route. Main reason is to keep specific information together as much as possible to make it easier to search for and read. Muchas gracias!

I have had Michelin LTX M/S on my 08 HL Base for over a year and I would highly recommend them to anyone. We experience the whole array of weather condiditons here in Minnesota and they have performed very well. If nothing else, at least another option to consider. Good Luck.

I will probably consider those when my Michelin Cross Terrains wear out.
I've had no problem with them though here in Northeastern Minnesota.

Thank you for the response...

I used the Michelin LTX M/S with good success on both a Yukon and Suburban in years past.

I have heard a lot of very good things about the Hydro-Edge so was curious if anyone was running them on the Highlander..., but as a previous poster mentioned I do not believe the HE is made in sizes for the Highlander... at least they did not have them for my Element which is a smaller vehicle.
