2011 Info, when is it released? Also will the Sport be back?
First post here, hoping someone has some info.
I was looking for a new car recently and one of my choices is the Highlander. Actually my number one choice. There is only one issue which I found out at the 2nd dealer I visited, sadly the first one had no clue.
I want black leather interior with navigation.
That combination was available on the Sport version. Sadly black leather is not available in the Limited and Nav is not available in the SE version.
I did some browsing in the forums but couldn't find any reason why the SE "replaced" the Sport.
So as for the questions:
When does Toyota usually release new model year information and the cars themselves?
Does anyone have any speculation or facts about the upcoming model year?
In 2011 will the SE be available with options like Nav or will the Sport return?
Any idea why the Sport version was removed and replaced with the cookie cutter SE model?
PS. While I would settle for the SE with Nav, the perfect model is the Sport for me with the ability to delete the 3rd row. I will absolutely pass on the beige or paste gray interiors of the Limited I would rather buy a different car.
Hello, and welcome to Toyota Nation! Here's a link to a past thread regarding the new names for Highlander trim lines that may answer one or two of your questions, but if nothing else you may find it interesting.

The Sport is available across the border in Canada. The only interior colour available on the Sport is BLACK. It doesn't come with Nav. and I don't think it has the 3rd row seat. The black Limited is the only model with a BLACK interior and would be available with Nav. and unfortunately, for you, a 3rd row seat.

You can get nav installed from the dealer for 3k in a Sport.

I would say go with the sport without nav and get a Roswell OEM.
After owning more than one vehicle with lousy OEM nav, I think looking "un-OEM" in the nav department is a badge of honor! I personally would never get OEM nav (or OEM looking nav) ever again. My Garmin will run circles around any built in unit, at any price, full stop.
First thank you everyone for your replies. Great informative forum, just hoping for some changes in 2011.

I will check out the Nav in the Limited this weekend at a dealer. My issue is I am on my 5th Garmin. While I do take it out 90% of the time it's the other 10% that gets my window smashed and the Garmin walks off, also it's not like I leave it on my dash.
Heck one nice day with the window down I was at a stop light and a guy just walked up and grabbed it from my dash, I guess I was lucky he didn't want the whole car! Big city life...

I guess they option them differently in Canada. I have the brochure for the 2010MY and it spelled out the many options available on the Sport including Nav and the deletion of the 3rd row as an option.
Actually I would take a black on black Limited from Canada, the deletion of the 3rd row is just a wish. Maybe that color combo will be available in the US in 2011.
According to my new Car and Driver for 2011 changes...
Highlander: A midcycle fluff-and-buff sees a new bifurcated grille with new bumpers and taillamps. Sometime in 2011, Toyota is likely to phase out the hybrid's ancient 3.3-liter V-6 in favor of a newer 3.5-liter that has dual VVT-i cam phasing and other fuel-saving refinements.

I hope this means they finally put that damn protective lip over the edge of the rear bumper.
Lol..I wouldn't count on that TD. It's akin to TWA removing olives from their salads (when they use to serve salads inflight). They realized they could save $50,000 a year by not offering them.
