Highlander in the news
Excerpted from the Wall Street Journal:
Toyota to Consolidate Highlander Production in Indiana
By Mike Ramsey
Toyota Motor Corp. will consolidate its global production of the Highlander sport-utility vehicle at its plant in Princeton, Ind., said Mike Goss, a company spokesman, and stop manufacturing the vehicle at a plant in Japan.
The Highlander already is built at the U.S. plant to serve the North American market. The timetable for moving production hasn't been decided, Mr. Goss said.
The Japanese plant will continue to make the hybrid gas-electric version of the model, he said.
Toyota's Princeton plant makes the Sequoia SUV and Sienna minivan in addition to the Highlander. The Kyodo news service reported the production move earlier, citing unidentified sources. Toyota sold 83,000 Highlanders in the U.S. last year.
The Princeton plant began making Highlanders in October after Toyota decided to consolidate its production of Tundra pickup trucks at a plant in San Antonio, freeing up production capacity in Indiana.
