I will need tires soon and I will not be purchasing the stock tire size that came with my car because there is only 1 choice available. No thanks.
I am not looking for any high performance or performance tires at all. I just want a normal, high tread wear all season tire. Just a normal all around tire.
The tire size of 255 50 R19 will also work on our 09' Highlanders. There are many more choices in this size. So based on my list please select the tire which you would purchase. After you vote in the poll please tell me why you would get that tire.
255/55/19 Bridgestone Dueler Alenza or Pirelli Scorpion ATR
Both have great reviews on tirerack, I can personally vouch for the Alenzas on the Highlander and the Sequoia and how they did in the worst winter in Maryland history and they both come with a decent treadwear warranty.
Half the tires you listed are garbage brands and a few won't last more than a season. Take my advice above.

Not knowing what is on your list, 1010tires.com gives the Hankook Ventus AS RH07 a customer review of 4.2 out of 5. The Alenza is rated 3.7 and the ATR at 3.6. In any case, none of those will match a true Winter tire for winter traction. They may be ok in snow but not on ice or frozen asphalt due to their harder rubber compound. For safety and piece of mind, I use dedicated winter tires when they are required. I don't know about the U.S. but here in Canada at least one province (Quebec) has a law requiring it's residence to use Winter tires during a set period of time. Other provinces are considering it.

I have the Toyo Open Country H/T in the stock 245/55/19 size and after 1,000 miles, so far so good with no wear. Got them for cheap at www.treadepot.com. Actually looking forward to next winter and hope there is some snow like last year.

+1 0n the Toyo P245/55R19 Open Country H/T... 12k miles on mine so far and it is a very good tire... Totally unlike the original crap Toyota specified...
Second the 255/55/19 Nokian WRG2. Prepared to trade off a bit of dry handling for better traction in winter without having to go to a second set of tires.

I just bought a set of four 255/55/19 Pirelli Scorpion ATR's. Not enough miles on them yet to give much of a useful report to the group, but so far they have been a huge improvement over the stock BS Duelers in regards to road feel. Meaning the highlander just feels more "secure". I was looking for a tire to do a lot and hopefully these will meet my expectations. Once I get more miles on them I'll post a review.
I have decided to go with the Toyo Open Country H/T tires. Not interested in buying anything for performance or that will wear out quick. The Toyos were rated as good tires and have got good all around reviews.
You won't be disappointed. I've have 10k miles on mine here in the northeast. No complaints so far. I run them at 35psi. Enjoy !

Toyo Open Country H/Ts in 245/55R19...Why go wider than 245? More choices I know but worse for snow (and to a lesser degree heavy rain) if you go with 255s. Have had the H/Ts on for 28,000 miles (since a warranty replace on the craptastic A20s at 15,000 miles). Literally 2/32nds wear in 28K (from 12/32nds to approx 10/32nds).
Other ideas: Hankook has the Ventus RH07 in 245 width as well. I run Hankook Ventus V4s on my Infiniti G35 and they are an excellent tire. People that tell you Kumho and Hankook are crap simply have no idea what they are talking about...All brands have good and bad tires - some of the worst tires I've ever had have been the most expensive...all my "bad" experience had been with Michelins (they tend to not age "gracefully").

at $720 shipped for 4, i think i will stay with these tires.
from NYC to DC and back, NYC to Princeton and back......about 1000 miles in June, no apparent wear on the tire except for those little stubs from new tires being gone.
Although i must say, i couldn't deal with it at 35 psi, i put it down to 32 and am happy with the ride.
