09' Highlander Maintenance Questions

I had a few questions about the overall maintenance of an 09' Highlander.

Besides the normal oil changes and air filter changes what other preventive maintenance would you recommend?

I want to take extra special care of my highlander and do not want to overlook anything. I would rather spend a little more money on certain replacements parts or services rather than having to spend even more money down the road fixing something.

So would you recommend any maintenance for the engine, frame, brakes, filters, fluids, etc?

Thanks

I would say just follow the recommended service intervals that are listed in the back of your owners manual. It provides a comprehensive list of what service needs to be done and when. Also, here's a link to the service schedule used as a standard at Toyota dealerships. The only other thing I'd pay attention to is the alignment of your tires. Keep an eye on them, and as soon as any unusual wear takes place have it looked at (at more than one place if necessary) and align both axles if an alignment is indicated.

I wonder why there is no mention of lube intervals. Don't Highlanders have any zerk fittings ???

My 2 cents:
Simply follow the Toyota service schedule, just don't go cheap on materials (filters, fluids, etc).

Things that aren't in the service schedule that I do and recommend:
Rotate tires every 2500 miles, alignment check every 5000 (ie every oil change). This may seem like overkill, but at $250+/tire it's a cheap trade-off. You can get "lifetime alignments" from places like Firestone which make that even less costly. I rotate all 5 tires as well. Tires don't last more than 7-ish years, so you might as well use them.

I also consider wax/sealant/protectant/etc part of maintenance as well. This gets done on a regular schedule at my house.
